“The Bow”

Blessings folk!

The Lord made covenant with Noah and his sons.
Never again would the Lord destroy the entire earth with a Flood.
Regional? Yes.
Entirety? No.

The Lord gave them a sign of this covenant promise…

Gen 9:11-17

“I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth.”

God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations;

I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth.

“It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud,

and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh.

“When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”

And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

The Bow was/is a sign of the covenant between God and man/living creatures for all generations.

God set His bow in the cloud.
Note, it was His bow.
This is what we call the rainbow.

Some interesting things.
It is because of this sign at this time that I think that the hydrological cycle of earth was changed with the Flood.
Apparently, there had never been a rainbow.
Something unlikely if it had rained before the Flood!
The Lord brings the cloud over the earth
(Job tells us that the Lord directs the cloud, the rain, the lighting, etc.)
The bow would be/can be seen in the cloud.
It is a reminder of God’s Promise.

Did you see “who” it reminded?
The Lord will look upon it to remember the everlasting covenant that He had made.
Not that God would forget, rather a solemn reminder with Himself!

We are also reminded, though we see/understand partially.
We remember His covenant.

We are familiar with the shape of the rainbow, from the earth perspective.
An arch.
A half-circle.

Have you ever seen one from above?
I have.
While flying.

The rainbow is a circle when seen from above.
A complete, perfect circle encompassing all the spectrum of visible light.

A reminder of the everlasting covenant promise of God.

No wonder the enemy seeks to pervert the symbol of the Bow…
