“Your Wickedness Is Great”

“Your Wickedness Is Great”

Blessings folk!

The people had demanded a king.
They received a king from the Lord.
They rejected the Lord as Sovereign over them.
The Lord gave them the desire of their heart.

Yet, there was hope.
The grace of God on display.
The mercy of God in abundance.

Read what the Lord told them…

 1Sa 12:14-18

“If you will fear the LORD and serve Him, and listen to His voice and not rebel against the command of the LORD, then both you and also the king who reigns over you will follow the LORD your God.

“If you will not listen to the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the command of the LORD, then the hand of the LORD will be against you, as it was against your fathers.

“Even now, take your stand and see this great thing which the LORD will do before your eyes.

“Is it not the wheat harvest today? I will call to the LORD, that He may send thunder and rain. Then you will know and see that your wickedness is great which you have done in the sight of the LORD by asking for yourselves a king.”

So Samuel called to the LORD, and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day;
and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

Even in rebellion the Lord provided a place to begin again.

If they would fear the Lord…
If they would serve the Lord…
If they would listen to the voice of the Lord…
If they would not rebel against the command of the Lord..
Then, the people and the king reigning over them would follow the Lord.

But…!!

If they did not listen to the voice of the Lord…
If they rebelled against the command of the Lord…
Then, the hand of the Lord would be against the people and the king, as it was against their fathers.

The Lord provided a sign.
He told them to take their stand and see the great thing He would do before their eyes.

It was the dry season in the natural.

Samuel called for rain and thunder.

Why?

To verify the Word of the Lord.
To affirm the Word of the Lord.
So that they would see and know that their wickedness was great.

What wickedness?
The wickedness of rejecting the Lord and asking for a king.

Samuel asked.
The Lord sent.
The people feared Samuel and the Lord.

Too many professing believers do the same today.
They look to “the king” rather than to the Lord.
They trust in “the king” of the Body.
They depend upon “the king” of the land…politically speaking.

We do well to trust only upon the Most High God.
