"Destroyed"

“Destroyed…”

Blessings folk!

Jude now reminds the recipients of what God had done in the past.
Several examples are given.
This was to encourage the folk to contend for the faith with the knowledge that God will judge the ungodly.

The first example…

Jude 5
Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe.

Jude reminds them of something which they already knew.
This is a major hint that the recipients were Believers with Jewish heritage.
The Jewish people are the first example.
God had saved them from bondage in Egypt.
Yet, when they did not believe...when they refused to enter the land promised by the Lord...the Lord destroyed them.
Every person aged twenty and over died in the desert before the nation was allowed to enter the Land.

The picture is this.
If the Lord judged His people for their lack of faithfulness, would He not judge these men that had crept in and sought to pervert the Body of Christ?

We can rest in the Lord, the Judge.

Contend earnestly for the faith.
