“Tempted With Truth”

Blessings folk!

Jesus stood on the Word of God when the tempter came.

So should we.

What did the tempter do?

He tried again.
He changed strategy.

He had approached Jesus related to Jesus’ need - food.
Remember, Jesus was at the end of a forty day fast.
His body craved food.

Even though He needed food, Jesus would not succumb to His ability, but rather, He depended and waited upon the Lord.

So, the tempter tried again…

Mat 4:5-6

Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,

and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written,
‘HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU’;
and
‘ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP,
SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’”

Read again.
Look at the facts presented.

The devil took Jesus.
He took Jesus to the holy city.
The devil had Jesus stand on the pinnacle of the temple…the high point.
The devil then commanded Jesus to throw Himself down..”If you are the Son of God”.

Again, the devil/tempter was drawing into question who Jesus was.
Satan seems to be in control of the scene.
Satan knew exactly Who it was.
He knew it was the Lord.

Satan was trying to Jesus to sin in the flesh.

But note that the devil is sly.
He is shrewd.
He is smart.

Do you see what he said next?

Jesus had responded to the first temptation by speaking the Word from Scripture.

Now the devil is quoting Scripture in an attempt to deceive and tempt Jesus.

That is interesting.

The devil does the same today.
He seeks to tempt with the Truth!

We must know the Word.
We must know the truth of the Word lest someone deceive us with a perverted Word.
