“The Lord Restored His Fortunes…”

Blessings folk!

We have reached the end of the account of Job.

Give close attention.

Note what Job does.
Note what God does.
Watch the numbers.
Think.

Job 42:10-13

And the LORD restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends.
And the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Then came to him all his brothers and sisters and all who had known him before
and ate bread with him in his house.
And they showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him.
And each of them gave him a piece of money and a ring of gold.

And the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning. And he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.

He had also seven sons and three daughters.

Job prayed for his friends as God instructed.
His friends were forgiven.
Job’s fortunes were restored…by double.

Remember what he began with?

Job 1:3
He possessed 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, and 500 female donkeys,
and very many servants, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.

The Lord doubled his stuff.

But, what of this?

Job 1:2
There were born to him seven sons and three daughters.

Why not a doubling of children?

Ah…this is one of the most precious and poignant of all Scripture.
Job had been through much.
Job had been “caught between” a battle in the heavenlies.
Much of what occurred to Job we would call “unfair”.

He had lost stuff.
He had lost his children.
He still had a nagging wife.

Why no doubling of children?

I think it is because his children were doubled.

Half had already been taken to eternity.
The other half were given as restoration.

Job had 14 sons.
Job had 6 daughters.

Some were simply awaiting to be reunited in eternity.

I suspect this was a source of comfort to Job and his wife.
