“Precepts of Men”

“Precepts of Men”

Blessings folk!

So, the Pharisees and scribes were seeking to get an answer from Jesus.
“Why did His disciples not wash according to the traditions of the elders?”

It was a setup…as are many things today.

How did Jesus respond?

Mar 7:6-8
And He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:
‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS,
BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.

‘BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME,
TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.’

“Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.”

Jesus quoted the Word, specifically from Isaiah 29:13.

But, before He states the Word, He tells them what they were.
He tells them how they are behaving.
He tells them they are hypocrites.
He confirms that Isaiah was correct in calling them such.
He literally states that they are a fulfillment of the prophetic Word of the Lord spoken through Isaiah some 700+ years before.

How were they hypocritical?

In the same way that people are today.

They honor the Lord with their lips, yet their hearts are far from Him.
They worship the Lord in vain.
They teach as doctrines…truths…the precepts of men.

They gave more heed to the precepts/“truths”/ideas of men than to the truth of God.

Such continues to impact the Body of Christ today.

Much…most?…of what is preached/taught is more related to the precepts of men than the precepts of God.

Let us have nothing more to do with such…

Remember what we saw yesterday…

Col 2:8
See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception,
according to the tradition of men,
according to the elementary principles of the world,
rather than according to Christ.
