"Desire"

“Desire…”

Blessings Folk!

What do you desire?

A loaded question I know.

We are told in the Word what to desire.

In the following, note what we are rid from our lives and what we are to desire.

1 Peter 2
1 So rid yourselves of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander.
2 Like newborn infants, desire the pure spiritual milk, so that you may grow by it for your salvation,
3 since you have tasted that the Lord is good.

We are to ride ourselves of…

  • all malice
  • all deceit
  • all hypocrisy
  • all envy
  • all slander

Often folk believe that upon salvation we no longer will be tempted with such.

This is not the case.

We have a decision to make as to what we will walk in.

Will we walk in the Spirit and the new man created by God?

Or, will we walk in the flesh, in the old man, in the patterns and practices of the past life “in Egypt”?

We are empowered to walk in holiness.
We are holy.

Yet, we can reject/override and walk in sin.

We are to desire something else.

We are to desire pure, spiritual milk.
This will provide growth in our salvation.

Usually “spiritual milk” is stated to be the Word of God - exclusively.

The Word is milk unto us.

But, I do not believe that “spiritual milk” is limited to the Word.

We know that the Spirit teaches us.

John 14
25 “I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you.
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit—the Father will send Him in My name—will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.

We know that the Body has a role/function.

1 Thessalonians 5
14 And we exhort you, brothers: warn those who are irresponsible, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
15 See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.

So, the picture is that of growing in relationship in the Lord through all that He releases.

We are to crave/desire this “spiritual milk” as an infant desires its mother’s milk.

If you have seen this you understand the picture.

We are not to live exclusively from “milk”.

Hebrews 5
11 We have a great deal to say about this, and it’s difficult to explain, since you have become too lazy to understand.
12 Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the basic principles of God’s revelation again. You need milk, not solid food.
13 Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the message about righteousness, because he is an infant.
14 But solid food is for the mature—for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.

Therefore, let us be not lazy in our pressing on in the Kingdom.
Let us not exist on milk alone.
Rather, let us partake of the solid food that the Lord gives.
Let us move beyond the “basic principles of God’s revelation” into that which He has for us.
Allow the Lord to move you into maturity…trained to distinguish between good and evil.

Blessings!
