“Stripped: All Night, All Day”

Blessings folk!

Saul had enough.

Three sets of messengers had been sent to fetch (capture?!) David.
Every group broke out in prophetic utterance when the Spirit of the Lord came upon them.
And David was still free.

Read…

1Sa 19:22-24

Then he himself went to Ramah and came as far as the large well that is in Secu;
and he asked and said, “Where are Samuel and David?”
And someone said, “Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.”

He proceeded there to Naioth in Ramah; and the Spirit of God came upon him also,
so that he went along prophesying continually until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

He also stripped off his clothes,
and he too prophesied before Samuel and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Therefore they say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”

Saul decided to go himself.
As he approached Naioth of Ramahj the Spirit of God came upon him.

Saul broke forth in prophecy!

He stripped off his clothes.
He prophesied before Samuel.
He laid naked all that day and night.

Many comment on “naked” stating that it refers to outer clothing.
But…
The same Word is used of…

  • Adam and Eve…

Gen 2:25
And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

Definitely no clothes

  • Isaiah…

Isa 20:2
at that time the LORD spoke through Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying,
“Go and loosen the sackcloth from your hips and take your shoes off your feet.”
And he did so, going naked and barefoot.

Without clothing again.

So, I think Saul was without clothing.
The ultimate exposure before the Lord and man.
A humbling before creation.

A saying among the people arose, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”

What was the Lord doing?
Did this “impact” Saul?
