“Greatly Rejoice”

Blessings folk!

This is my favorite seasonal time of the year.
The Fall.

Where we live it is a time of onsetting coolness, leaves turning color, harvest in, rejoicing in the abundant provision of the Lord.

We are to rejoice at all times.
We are to rejoice in all seasons.

Hear the Word of the Lord…

1Pe 1:6-9
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

We rejoice, though for a season, if need be, we have heaviness and many temptations.
There will be seasons of peace, comfort.
There will be seasons of heavinesss and temptations.
Why “if need be”?
The trial of faith purifies and proves true faith.
It will bring praise, honor and glory when Jesus returns.

But, what of the first words of verse 6…”wherein ye greatly rejoice”?
To what is “wherein” referring?

We need to read the previous verses…context is important.

1Pe 1:3-5
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

In what do we rejoice?

  1. Lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus
  2. Incorruptible, undefiled inheritance…reserved in heaven
  3. We are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation…ready to be revealed in the last days.

In these we rejoice.

Why should we ever worry, be anxious, doubt, fear…?
