“Pilate: Crucify Him”

Blessings folk!

Pilate knew what was happening with Jesus.
He knew that the religionists were envious of Jesus.
He also knew the politics of the situation.
It was not good for Pilate.

He sought a way out, a solution.

Mar 15:6-15

Now at the feast he used to release for them any one prisoner whom they requested.

The man named Barabbas had been imprisoned with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the insurrection.

The crowd went up and began asking him to do as he had been accustomed to do for them.

Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”

For he was aware that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.

But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead.

Answering again, Pilate said to them,
“Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?”

They shouted back, “Crucify Him!”

But Pilate said to them,
“Why, what evil has He done?”
But they shouted all the more, “Crucify Him!”

Wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them,
and after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.

At the Jewish feast of Passover/Unleavened Bread Pilate was accustomed to releasing a political prisoner at the behest of the people.

The crowd went up and demanded this.

Pilate seized the moment…”do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”

But, the chief priests had stirred up the crowds to ask for the release of Barabbas.

Pilate then made a serious mistake.
He asked the people what they wanted to do with “the King of the Jews”.

The shouted “crucify Him”.

Pilate demanded to know the evil?

They demanded “crucify Him”.

Pilate was weak.
He wished to satisfy the people.
He feared the religious rulers.
He had the testimony of Jesus.
He knew about his wife’s dream about Jesus.

Yet, he still allowed Jesus to be crucified.

Compromise of truth always leads to weakness.

Do not do so.
