“Forty Days in the Wilderness”

Blessings folk!

Father was pleased with Jesus.
Jesus was obedient.
Jesus was baptized by John to fulfill all righteousness.

Father spoke forth His feelings as a Voice from heaven…

Mar 1:11
and a voice came out of the heavens: “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.”

Now, read what happens next…

Mar 1:12-13

Immediately the Spirit impelled Him to go out into the wilderness.

And He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan;
and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to Him.

Again, we see the Triune nature of God.
Father.
Son.
Spirit.

The Spirit “impelled”…directed…Jesus to go out into the wilderness.

Jesus was there forty days.
For what purpose?

Obedience for one.
Jesus did as directed by the Lord.

Temptation for another.
Jesus was being tempted by Satan.

Jesus was with wild beasts.
Alone as to man.

Then, angels ministered to Him.

As is often the case, Mark gives a succinct account.
We will look at the other gospels later.

For today, know that you are not alone among the “wild beasts”.
Even if man is not present…
Even if man turns his back…
The Spirit is with us.
Angels are with us.

We are not alone nor abandoned.

Know this, wilderness can come after the “mountaintop” experience of obedience.

Therefore, stand firm in the midst of temptation.
