“Next Year”

Blessings folk!

The Lord had told Abraham “no”.
A Word we usually do not want to hear from Him.

The Lord then told Abraham what would happen to Ishmael.
Blessed.
Multiplied.
Father of twelve princes.
A great nation.

Parallels to what would happen through the child of the Promise.

The Lord continues…with that powerful Word we find in Scripture, “but”…

Gen 17:21-22

“But My covenant I will establish with Isaac,
whom Sarah will bear to you at this season next year.”

When He finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.

Abram and Sarai had tried to expedite the promise of God.
They did so in the flesh.
The Hagar plan that brought forth Ishmael.

Now the Lord is repeatedly telling Abraham that the child of the Promise/Covenant would be from Sarah.
Remember, both “were as good as dead” related to reproduction.

The Covenant Promise was about to come to fruition.
At that season next year a child would be born.

Can you imagine?
Think about it.
Some three months later there was a moment of marital intimacy.
A child was conceived.
But, I get ahead…

When God had finished with Abraham, He went up from Him.
That is interesting!
Apparently he was speaking to him audibly? Face-to-face? Genesis 17:1 says the Lord “appeared” to him…

What was Abraham’s response?
We will see tomorrow.
Obedience.
May we do likewise.
