“I Will Search for Him…”

Blessings folk!

Saul continued to pursue David…
He would hear he was somewhere…go after him…only to find him gone.
Then Saul would go home.

We can tell that Saul was frustrated.

Read.
Watch.

1Sa 23:19-23

Then Ziphites came up to Saul at Gibeah, saying,
“Is David not hiding with us in the strongholds at Horesh,
on the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?

“Now then, O king, come down according to all the desire of your soul to do so;
and our part shall be to surrender him into the king’s hand.”

Saul said, “May you be blessed of the LORD, for you have had compassion on me.

“Go now, make more sure, and investigate and see his place where his haunt is,
and who has seen him there; for I am told that he is very cunning.

“So look, and learn about all the hiding places where he hides himself and return to me with certainty, and I will go with you; and if he is in the land,
I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.”

Not only did David have to be concerned about Saul, he had to watch those who were more than willing to turn him over to Saul.

People are always wanting to ingratiate themselves to the king.

The Ziphites reported to Saul that David was in their area.

Saul did not seem to be too excited about chasing another report.

He told them to :

  • Go
  • Make more sure
  • Investigate
  • See his place (wanted actual eyewitness account)
  • See who was with David (how many men, etc.)
  • Look
  • Learn
  • Discover all his hiding place

Then return and he would accompany them.

Then this bravado by Saul…”I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah!”

Saul knew that David would become king.

I wonder if he was beginning to realize that he was “kicking against the goads”?

Act 26:14
“And when we all had fallen to the ground,
I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language,
‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.'
