“The Lord Made Covenant…”

Blessings folk!

The Lord was speaking to Abram.
Abram was in a deep sleep.
Abram had prepared a sacrifice at the instruction of the Lord.
Now, the Lord responds…

Gen 15:17-21

It came about when the sun had set, that it was very dark, and behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a flaming torch which passed between these pieces.

On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying,
“To your descendants I have given this land,
From the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates:

the Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite

and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim

and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.”

The Lord made covenant with Abram.
The Lord initiates covenant.
The Lord makes covenant.
The Lord honors His covenant.

The smoking oven and flaming torch are the Presence of the Lord sealing covenant.
Both represent the Presence of God.

We see the “pillar of cloud” (Exodus 13) as well as smoke on Mount Sinai (Exodus 19) and the cloud of the Shekinah glory of the Lord (1 Kings 8).

We see the “pillar of fire” (Exodus 13), the burning bush (Exodus 3) and the fire of heaven when the Lord consumes/receives sacrifices (1 Kings 18, etc)

The very Presence of the Lord was with Abram

The Lord promised descendants.
The Lord promised specific land.
The Lord defined the land by its current inhabitants and by geographical boundary.

This was/is real, tangible covenant that carries through today.

It gives understanding of much…if we believe and receive.
