“Abram…Obeyed?”
“Abram…Obeyed?”
Blessings folk!
Abraham was called of God.
Called to a land that he knew not.
Called to an inheritance somewhere…
Abraham obeyed.
So we learn from Hebrews 11.
Let us go back to the beginning…Genesis…
Gen 12:1-4
Now the LORD said to Abram,
“Go forth from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father’s house,
To the land which I will show you;
And I will make you a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And so you shall be a blessing;
And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
So Abram went forth as the LORD had spoken to him; and Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
God gave Abram (he would have a name change to “Abraham” later) specific instructions:
Go forth from your country.
Go forth from your relatives.
Go forth from your father’s house.
Go forth to the land I will show you.
God gave Abram specific promises:
I will make you a great nation.
I will bless you.
I will make your name great.
You shall be a blessing.
God gave Abram promises related to others:
I will bless those who bless you.
I will curse those who curse you.
In you all the families of the earth will be blessed.
There is much here…as we will see.
For now, Abram obeyed…nearly.
A great example of “partial obedience”.
Yes, he departed as God instructed, but did you see something?
We will see later that Lot is a relative of Abram.
God had told Abram to leave his father’s house, relatives, etc.
He did leave, but he took one with him. Lot.
Hummm…
