Mar 1:9

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

Mark tells us the basic facts.
Jesus from Nazareth…the Nazareth in Galilee.
Jesus was baptized by John…in the Jordan.

Why?

Did Jesus need to repent.

Mark does not say.

Matthew does.

Mat 3:13-15

Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be baptized by him.

But John tried to prevent Him, saying,
“I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”

But Jesus answering said to him,
“Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.”
Then he permitted Him.

John did not want to baptize Jesus.
John knew Jesus.
They were kin.
John knew that Jesus was without sin.
John knew that he had need to be baptized by Jesus.
John was a sinner.
Jesus was not.

Then why did Jesus insist?
The passage tells us.
To fulfill all righteousness.
To do what was right.

Father desired for Jesus to model before His people.
It was the Lord’s desire.

Jesus heard from Father.
Jesus obeyed.
Perfectly.
Immediately.

So should we.
