“No Heir”

Blessings folk!

Wonder why the Lord said the following to Abram…

Gen 15:1

After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying,
“Do not fear, Abram,
I am a shield to you;
Your reward shall be very great.”

Was it simply a Word of encouragement..exhortation?

Or, was something bothering Abram?

I suspect something was on his mind that caused fear, wonder, doubt of the Word of the Lord.

The Lord has made a promise to Abram…

Gen 12:1-3

Now the LORD said to Abram,
“Go forth from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father’s house,
To the land which I will show you;

And I will make you a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And so you shall be a blessing;

And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

Abram had gone forth.
Yet, he still had no children by which to become a “great nation”…to be “blessed”.

God knew this.
Timing is all God’s.

The following verses give understanding.

Genesis 15:2-3

Abram said, “O Lord GOD, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”

And Abram said, “Since You have given no offspring to me, one born in my house is my heir.”

Childlessness was weighing on his mind.
Who would be his heir? A servant?
How would a nation come?

Then, this.
Did Abram accuse God?
Was he reminding God?
“You have given no offspring to me”.

Aggressively waiting upon the time of the Lord can be difficult.
But, know this.
God’s timing is perfect.
God’s ways are beyond reproach.
Trust in Him.
