“Their Testimony Was Not Consistent”

Blessings folk!

On January 3, 2018 I wrote that we were taking a “short side bar” from the gospel of Mark to look at some things in the life of David.

Eleven months later…

Back to Mark…

A young man had just fled from the arresting officers sent to fetch Jesus.
The young man fled naked…they had tried to apprehend him…it is believed that this is Mark.

Mar 14:51-52

A young man was following Him,
wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they seized him.

But he pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked.

The account continues…

Mar 14:53-54

They led Jesus away to the high priest;
and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes gathered together.

Peter had followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest;
and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself at the fire.

Jesus is arrested and hauled before the religious rulers.
Peter was following from a distance…curious…fear-filled…wanting to know what was happening…but as we will see, scared of being associated with Jesus in this venue.

Then, Jesus experiences what all true-believers will experience.
False accusations.
Lies.

Read and note the falsehoods.

Mar 14:55-59

Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any.

For many were giving false testimony against Him, but their testimony was not consistent.

Some stood up and began to give false testimony against Him, saying,

“We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with hands,
and in three days I will build another made without hands.’”

Not even in this respect was their testimony consistent.

The political chicanery of man.

We see such all time.
In political realms.
In the organizational “church”.

They sought testimony against Jesus.

Many were giving false testimony.
Why?
To ingratiate themselves to “the powers that be”?
Likely.

But, it was clear that their testimony was not consistent.
This was stated twice.

They gave twisted interpretations of the Words of Jesus, “destroying the temple…”>

Know this, the enemy uses the same strategy against us.

May we handle such in the way that Jesus did.
