“Worthy: World or Lord?”

“Worthy: World or Lord?”

Blessings folk!

Let us think a little more on the phrase we saw yesterday…”men of whom the world was not worthy”…

Heb 11:37-38

They were stoned,
they were sawn in two,
they were tempted,
they were put to death with the sword;
they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated

(men of whom the world was not worthy),
wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground.

Again, this does not paint a picture of modern-day faith.

Most of what we do “in faith” carries a strong stench of the world.

We try to…

  • look “pretty”
  • be “attractive”
  • “entice”
  • “fit in”
  • etc. etc.

Where is this?…

Act 17:6

And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

The people were crying out before the rulers of the city in despair because “these that have turned the world upside down are come hither also” speaking of Believers.

Rare is the man that “turns the world upside down”…that turns his world upside down.

More often than not “men of faith” are welcomed and embraced with open arms by the world.

Hummm…

Hebrews 11 is a amazing passage.
A long list of those of faith, then this little parenthetical line…”(men of whom the world was not worthy)”.

The distinction is clear.
Are we men that the world finds worthy?
Or…
Are we men that the Lord finds worthy?

The fruit will reveal.
