“The Tempter Came…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus was led by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil.
Jesus fasted forty days and forty nights.
He was then hungry.

Then, the tempter came.

Mat 4:3a
And the tempter came and said to Him,…

We can know that the tempter will come.
If he tempted Jesus, he and his horde will tempt us.

Note that the tempter spoke to Jesus.

Now, watch what he said…how he said it…

Mat 4:3
And the tempter came and said to Him,
“If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

The Word “If” carries a combination of ideas…

  • “if you really are”
  • “since you are”

The tempter was ridiculing Jesus by acknowledging that He was the Son of God, but the Son of God on earth in the form of flesh…of His creation.

The tempter knew this to be true.

The enemy was questioning whether Jesus was truly the Son of God in this form.

Then, the enemy questioned by drawing doubt and temptation.
If Jesus is truly the Son of God, then prove it by providing for Himself.

That is the pattern of the tempter today.

He seeks to draw into question who we are in the Lord.
He seeks to draw into question the Word of the Lord.
He seeks to get us to move within our own power, to provide for ourselves, to misappropriate that which the Lord has granted…to turn stones into bread.

Jesus could have converted the stones.
He could have provided for Himself.

Why did He not?

Father had not told Him to.

We will see more…

For today, resist the lies of the tempting evil one.
Know who you are in the Lord…as a true Believer.
Confess, repent if you are not a true believer…especially if a religionists. Quit playing the game.
