“Defiled: Listen. Understand.”

Blessings folk!

It is often said that we should live as Jesus did, that we should treat people as Jesus did.
Yes!

We often want the “lovey-dovey” part of that thought, but we do not want the other aspect.

Jesus boldly, strongly, intensely corrected folk.

Sinners He called to repentance in love.

Religionist He dealt with fortnightly, pulling no punches.
He called them hypocrites.
He used very colorful terms to reveal their hearts.

He has just done so with a group of Pharisees and scribes…the “corban” moment we saw yesterday.

He told them…

Mar 7:13
“You nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down.
And you do many other similar things.”

Many other similar things.
Not just limited to this one example.

So is the professing organizational church today.
We do “many other things” in the “name of the Lord”, yet all we are doing is nullifying the Word of God and exalting the traditions of man.

We do everything except what the Lord calls us to do.

I could provide a sad list of such…but, let us look at what Jesus did next.

Mar 7:14-15
Summoning the crowd again, he told them, “Listen to me, all of you, and understand:

“Nothing that goes into a person from outside can defile him but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.”

Jesus took the Truth to the people.
Turning from the Religionist, He called the people, all of them, to listen and to understand.

One is not defiled by what goes into him…food/drink.
One is defiled by that which comes out of Him.

Jesus is not speaking of the gastrointestinal process.

He was speaking of what comes out of the mouth - speech.
He was speaking of what comes out through action - deed.

These reveal the true heart of the individual.

The defiled heart produces defiled speech and deed.

The Religionists were manifesting such - as is today.

They looked good.
They appeared to be altogether perfect externally.
Yet, their word and deed revealed the defilement of heart.

May we have eyes to see.
May we have ears to hear.

Religionists!
Repent!
The Lord will give you a new heart…
