“Be Careful to Do”

Blessings folk!

The book of Deuteronomy is the “second giving of the law”.

Moses was restating the Law for the second generation of Israelites that were about to enter the Promised Land.

The first generation had died due to lack of faith and obedience.

The Lord had told the current generation to love Him with all their hearts, mind, soul and strength.

He had told them the choice between blessings and curses.

He now says this…

Deu 11:29-32

“It shall come about, when the LORD your God brings you into the land where you are entering to possess it, that you shall place the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.

“Are they not across the Jordan, west of the way toward the sunset, in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?

“For you are about to cross the Jordan to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God is giving you, and you shall possess it and live in it,

and you shall be careful to do all the statutes and the judgments which I am setting before you today.

The Lord told them about two mountains - Gerizim and Ebal.
God told them where they were located.

They were to do something there.
From Gerizim they would “place” blessing.
From Ebal they would “place” curse.
(We see the actual account in Joshua 8:33)

The Lord tells them what was to occur.
They would cross the Jordan (the account shows that God piled up the water for them to cross on dry land!)
They would possess the land that the Lord was giving them.
They would live in it.

They were to be careful to do all the statutes and judgments of the Lord.

How about us?
Do we truly possess what the Lord has for us?
Are we carefully obeying and abiding?
