“Exalted Above All…”

Blessings folk!

The sons of Israel were assembled in fasting, sackcloth and dirt on themselves.
They separated themselves from foreigners in the land.
They stood in place while the Law was read for a third of the day.
They confessed and worshipped the Lord for another third of the day.
The Levites led.
Then all broke forth in praise/prayer to the Most High.

Give close heed to all that is said.
It is lengthy…we will take a few days.
It gives us a model whereby to pray in like manner.

Neh 9:5

Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah and Pethahiah, said, “Arise, bless the LORD your God forever and ever!
O may Your glorious name be blessed
And exalted above all blessing and praise!

The Levites commanded the people to arise and bless the Lord….the Lord their God…forever and ever.

They were reminded Who God is - their God.
They were reminded that they were to bless Him at all times forever…and ever.

They began by giving blessing and praise to the name of the Lord.

We do well to do likewise.

They bless the glorious name of the Lord.
The “name” of the Lord encompasses all of Who He is…without limit…not giving heed to any particular manifestation or attribute. That is why He called Himself “I AM”.

Exo 3:13-14
Then Moses said to God, “Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them,
‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.' Now they may say to me, ‘What is His name?' What shall I say to them?”

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said,
“Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”

They exalted the name of the great I AM
They exalted Him above all blessing and praise.

That is an interesting turn of a phrase - “above all blessing and praise”.

A vivid picture that the Lord is above all.

When we pray/praise we should begin this way.

Exalt His name above all…
