“The Exhortation”

Blessings folk!

Consider Jesus.
Remember what He has done for us.
Reflect upon what He is doing.

Why?

To keep us from growing weary and losing heart.

But, there is more.

Jesus took on the sin of the world…unto death.

Have we dealt in like manner with our sin?

Hebrews 12:3-7

For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself,
so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin;

and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,
“MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD,
NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM;

FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES,
AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES.”

It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons;
for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?

I suspect that most of us have not resisted against sin to the point of shedding blood.
We have not strived to that degree against sin.

We also have likely forgotten the exhortation that is given to us as sons of God.

  • do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord
  • do not faint when reproved by Him

Remember,
  • the Lord disciplines those He loves
  • He scourge every son He receives

God deals with us as sons.
He disciplines us so that we will endure.

Rejoice in this truth, though we may not always like it!

The Lord loves you.
The Lord delights in you.
The Lord will discipline.

Pro 3:11-12

My son, do not reject the discipline of the LORD or loathe His reproof,

For whom the LORD loves He reproves,
Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.
