"We Will Not Come Up!"

“We Will Not Come Up!”

Blessings folk!

Deception will blind.
False accusation will color the truth of the present and past.

Moses sends for Dathan and Abiram.
Read what happens…

Numbers 16:12-16
12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and they said, “We will not come up.
13 Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, that you must also make yourself a prince over us? 14 Moreover, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up.”
15 And Moses was very angry and said to the Lord, “Do not respect their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them, and I have not harmed one of them.”

Defiance.
Rebellion.

Apparently Moses wanted to speak to Dathan and Abriam, likely about the issue at hand.
They refused.

Then comes the venom.

They accuse Moses of bringing them “out of a land flowing with milk and honey”...really?...they were slaves in that “land flowing with milk and honey”.
The accusation has overtones of Moses forcing them out. ?
They then questioned Moses’ motivation…”make yourself a prince over us”.
They accused him of wanting to murder the people.

You can see the inconsistency of thought.

Such occurs today.

Anger, deception, lies, etc. bring forth confusion and division.

Then, they fault Moses with not bringing them “into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards.”

It is all about the stuff.
All about self.
All about desires of the flesh.

The people could have had these things.
But, they refused to be obedient and enter the promised land when the Lord directed.

Rather, they believed the committee report.

They ended as they began, “we will not come up!”

Moses was angry.
Moses took it to the Lord and requested that God not respect their offerings.

We will see the answer later…
