“Error of Balaam - 19”

Blessings folk!

Balak’s attempt to curse the people of the Lord was not going well.

Twice Balaam had opened his mouth.

Both times the Word of the Lord came.
A Word of blessing.
A Word of declaration of who the people of the Lord were.
A Word that could be heard…if one listened.

Balak continued to seek to curse.

He thought that the problem was that the location of the proclamation was wrong,

He just had to find the correct geographical spot… sure…

Num 23:25-30

Then Balak said to Balaam, “Do not curse them at all nor bless them at all!”

But Balaam replied to Balak,
“Did I not tell you, ‘Whatever the LORD speaks, that I must do’?”

Then Balak said to Balaam,
“Please come, I will take you to another place;
perhaps it will be agreeable with God that you curse them for me from there.”

So Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor which overlooks the wasteland.

Balaam said to Balak,
“Build seven altars for me here and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here.”

Balak did just as Balaam had said, and offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.

Balaam again speaks the truth of the Lord.

Balak then takes Balaam to another spot.

Was Balaam just “playing along” so that Balak could understand?
Was Balaam still seeking the money and the honor?

Should Balaam have ceased and headed home?
Did he fear Balak?

Regardless, they went through the sacrificial process again, hoping that this time they could convince God to change His mind and curse the people.
