“Israel! Your People”

“Israel! Your People”

Blessings folk!

David had received the Word from the Lord via Nathan.
David is responding.
We saw some yesterday…did you notice his position?

2 Sa 7:18

Then David the king went in and sat before the LORD, and he said,
“Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?

David “went in and sat before the Lord”.

Went in where?
The tent that he had built…

1 Ch 15:1
Now David built houses for himself in the city of David;
and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.

Sat where?
Apparently before the Ark of the Covenant in the tent he had made.

David “came-and-went” from before the Lord.
Very different than that which was allowed in the Mosaic law.

David then spoke to the Lord.
Yesterday we read verses 18-22
Who Am I?

2 Sa 7:22-24

“For this reason You are great, O Lord GOD;
for there is none like You, and there is no God besides You,
according to all that we have heard with our ears.

“And what one nation on the earth is like Your people Israel,
whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people and to make a name for Himself,
and to do a great thing for You and awesome things for Your land, before Your people whom You have redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, from nations and their gods?

“For You have established for Yourself Your people Israel as Your own people forever, and You, O LORD, have become their God.

David declares the truth of the people of the Lord - Israel.

  • One nation
  • None on earth like Israel
  • God redeemed them to Himself as a people
  • God made a name for Himself through them
  • God did a great thing for Israel
  • God did great things for Israel’s land
  • God redeemed them out of Egypt and from other nations and other gods.
  • God has established for Himself His people, Israel…forever…again, forever.
  • He has become their God.

David knew these truths and proclaimed them in worship unto the Lord.

Many in the professing church reject these truths about Israel.
They say that God is “finished” with Israel.
They are grievously in error.
What part of “forever” do they not understand?

Perhaps we will look at how God has handled Israel…Ezra 9, Nehemiah 9, Daniel 9…

For today, know that God did all this… no one else.
