"Brother's Blood"

“Brother’s Blood”

Blessings folk!

Cain did not heed the counsel of the Lord.
Rather, Cain embraced the fallen countenance and that came in his rebellion.

Adam/Eve rebelled against God.
Cain rebelled against God.

What was the fruit of Cain’s rebellion?

He murdered his brother.

What happened next?

Gen 4:9-10

Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”

The LORD said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.

The Lord confronted Cain…”Where is your brother Abel?”
Why the detail “Abel”?
Were there more brothers? Yes, there were. Later.
More at this time? Perhaps, but probably not. (We will see Seth later&hellipWinking

God knew where Abel was.
He was giving Cain the opportunity to repent, confess.

Cain said he did not know.
Then Cain get’s snarky…”Am I my brother’s keeper?”

Cain did not know.
He did know that Abel was dead…which is interesting.
But, he did not know where he was.
Where did one go after death?
Was this the first death.
Did man even know what expiration of life looked like?

Then Cain goes the way of his father Adam.
Adam blamed God.
Cain, accuses God of not watching over his brother. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” The unsaid inference is “God, You should be watching over him…” Likely an undercurrent of “you should have received my offering also…”

God asked another question.
“What have you done?” The Lord knew.
But did Cain know and understand.
That is the purpose of the question.

The Lord calls for Cain to listen.
Listen to what?
The blood of this brother crying from the ground, crying out to the Lord.

God knew.
There was more to this death than Cain understood.

The Lord references this event in several places in the balance of the Word.

Jesus speaks of it…

Mat 23:34-35

“Therefore, behold, I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city,

so that upon you may fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

Blood is crying unto the Lord from our land.

We as believers need to remember who we are in Him…

Heb 12:22-24

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels,

to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,

and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.

We need to repent…
