Water and Fire

Blessings Folk!!

Today’s reading from the “So That’s Why” Bible is pp. 70-74...don’t have the chapter breakdown in front me...probably Genesis 42-44 or so!

The Lord is revealing much to us as we read through Genesis. Ask Him and He will reveal more.

Here is a sad fact.

Most of the professing body of Christ do not believe all the truths in Genesis. They believed some man-made interpretation. They believe according to the wisdom of man.

Here is another sad fact.

Most who profess to be Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ unto salvation know little about the Day of the Lord.

Locally, we are studying the Day of the Lord for a couple of weeks.

What do Genesis and the Day of the Lord have in common?

We need to be reminded of these truths. Pay close attention.

2 Peter 3:1-13
3 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

Peter wanted to stir up their pure minds...to remind them of that which they knew

2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

these truths were spoken by the prophets...of the Old Testament...and the apostles… the New Testament

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

First, in the last days scoffers will come. When? Last days. What will they do? Scoff. What is their motivation. Their own lusts, desires. Now, watch the focus of the scoffing...

4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

You can hear the contempt and sarcasm dripping from the words.
They were asking “where is the return of the Lord?”
They do not believe.
They mock.
Note what they were mocking and questioning.
They were drawing into doubt the return of the Lord.
The same is occurring today.
Even “professing believers” do not believe that the Lord will return.
Many do not believe the reality of the answer that Peter gave.
I believe that is why the Spirit led him to join them together...

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

They are willingly ignorant of creation...they do it on purpose.
They choose not to know. They choose not to believe.

6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

The great universal flood...the flood of Noah. Genesis 6+
The world will mock creation ex nihilo - out of nothing.
The world will mock the Biblical account of the flood.

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

The world, and many in “the church”, will mock the judgment yet to come - the fire of the Day of the Lord

The Lord tells us what to do...

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Be not ignorant.
Unlearned.
Quit being ignorant on purpose.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Repent.
Proclaim the gospel of repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

The Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night...not for believers, but for unbelievers…the balance of the Word makes this clear.
We are not in darkness, we are in light.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

Holiness
Godliness

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Looking for and hasting the coming of the day of God.

13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

KJV

The world will mock…
creation
the flood
the day of the Lord

We as true believers must…
adhere to the truth of the Word
walk not in ignorance
learn the truth
be holy
be godly
look for the Day of the Lord
hasten the coming of the Day of the Lord...how?...by obedience and holy living

Learn about the Day of the Lord!

We have been promised to be spared the Day of the Lord - the wrath of God upon unbelieving man. The Lord will literally take the True Church unto Himself on the first day of the Day of the Lord.

We have been promise to experience the Great Tribulation - the wrath of the satan indwelled Man of Lawlessness. God will enable us to endure.

Be not ignorant of the Word.
Quit getting your “knowledge” from “Left Behind.” LOL

Blessings!!!
