"Sons of God"

“Sons of God…”

Blessings folk!

Noah, a man of faith.

Let us look at the account of Noah…take our time.

Gen 6:1-3

Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them,

that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”

Men were multiplying on the earth.
Good!
God had told them to do so, to be fruitful and multiply.

But, something was happening.
The sons of God saw the daughters of men and took them for wives.
Whoever they chose.

Who are these sons of God?
There is debate.
We simply do not know beyond doubt, but there are ideas…more later.

But, look at the response of the Lord to the situation.
His Spirit would not strive with man forever.
There was strife.
Over what?
Because man is flesh?
Yep.
What does that mean?
Man “operating in the flesh”…more later.

God declares this - “nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”
Likely a two-fold meaning.
Man had 120 years until the Lord was doing something - likely the primary understanding.
Man would now live no more than 120 years - at this time they lived many hundred of years.

God was displeased with the ways of man.

Let us not displease Him.
