“gods of this world…”
Blessings Folk!!
So, the self-titled and self-styled “King of Pop” is dead, as well as the “Queen of Lust”.
Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett were both “gods of this world”, especially in the 70’s and 80’s.
I hasten to say that I do not know their relationship with the Most High God.
Jackson said “I believe in God.” This might be good, yet even the demons make the same proclamation…
James 2:19
19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.
NASU
It is reported that Fawcett was a devout Catholic - whatever that entails...devout Baptist, devout Lutheran, devout Scientologist… all are devoted to a religion of man. Perhaps she had true faith.
God alone will judge.
But, the passing of both emphasize the truths of the Word.
Fame is passing.
Beauty is fleeting.
Wealth and money is a trap.
Prov 31:30
30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain,
But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
NASU
The pursuits of the flesh and the glory of man is like the grass...it grows quickly and dies quicker…
1 Peter 1:24-25
24 For, "ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF,
25 BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER." And this is the word which was preached to you.
NASU
James 1:7-11
7 For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord,
8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
9 But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position;
10 and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away.
11 For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away.
NASU
Let us walk in the humility of the Lord.
Let us not seek the fame and fortune of the word, but rather, may we seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
Do not seek to be exalted in the eyes of the world.
Seek the Lord…
Matt 23:11-12
11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
KJV
1 Peter 5:6-7
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
KJV
Only godliness and holiness in the Lord brings true happiness and contentment…
1 Tim 6:6-10
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
KJV
Do pray for those left behind.
Do speak forth the Word of Truth in season and out of season.
Do resist the temptation of the world to be entrapped in the pursuit of anything other than the Lord.
Pray for those on the Prayer page…

“Avoid Such…”
Blessings Folk!!
As we have seen, we are to be ready “in season and out of season”.
Why?
Because the time will come, and is here, when “they will not endure sound doctrine.”
I believe that this is a directed Word to the Body of Christ.
The Church has rapidly turned to those who…
- tickle ears
- teach according to their own desires...power, money, prestige, etc.
- teach myths...not the Truth of the Lord.
We have examined these things.
Paul had warned Timothy earlier in the letter that certain men would arise.
Note a couple of things.
The timing - in the last days.
From where - they would “arise”. I think from within the Body.
Hear the Word of the Lord
2 Tim 3:1-5
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
KJV
Read another translation…
2 Tim 3:1-5
3 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.
2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,
4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.
NASU
One more version...this helps to understand what the various descriptive terms mean.
2 Tim 3:1-5
1 But know this: difficult times will come in the last days.
2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good,
4 traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 holding to the form of religion but denying its power. Avoid these people!
(from Holman Christian Standard Bible® Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005 by Holman Bible Publishers.)
This describes many who “are in the church.”
They “hold to a form of godliness/religion”, yet they deny the power of the Most High God.
We must be ready in season and out of season to deal with this.
We must reprove.
We must rebuke/correct.
We must encourage with great patience and long-suffering.
We must encourage and exhort with correct doctrine.
We have been warned through the words of Jesus, John, Paul and Peter that these type would arise...especially in the last days.
The time has come to no longer allow those who are…
- lovers of self
- lovers of money
- boastful
- proud
- blasphemers
- disobedient to parents
- ungrateful
- unholy
- unloving
- irreconcilable
- slanderers
- without self-control
- brutal
- without love for what is good
- traitors
- reckless
- conceited
- lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God
...to run rough-shod over the Body of Christ.
These false profess-ors are the tares of which Jesus warned.
So, what do we do?
First, be certain that you are not one of these individuals.
Second, speak the truth to them.
Third, avoid such.
Stand firm in the truth.
If you find yourself in a situation where such people are “ruling” and refuse to repent, then leave.
Let them have their “form of godliness.”
Seek the Lord.
He will guide you.
