“Wait To Inherit”

April 30, 2021

“Wait To Inherit”

Blessings folk!

The Psalmist keeps driving home the point.

Do not be upset with evildoers.
Do not let them distract you.
God will deal with them.

Psa 37:7-9

Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him;
Do not get upset because of one who is successful in his way,
Because of the person who carries out wicked schemes.

Cease from anger and abandon wrath;
Do not get upset; it leads only to evildoing.

For evildoers will be eliminated,
But those who wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land.

We are told directly:
- Cease from anger
- it is a choice
- we can decide to live in the anger of the flesh or the peace of the Spirit
- Abandon wrath
- the wrath of man accomplishes nothing
- leave room for the wrath of God
- Do not get upset
- getting upset only leads to evildoing
- If we are told to “do not”, then it is possible!
- Evildoers will be eliminated
- Wait upon the Lord.
- those that wait will inherit the land

Therefore,
- fear not
- rest in the Lord
- wait on the Lord

Inherit!

“Rest and Wait"

April 29, 2021

“Rest and Wait"

Blessings folk!

Psalm 37 is a much-needed Word for the Body today.

Remember and reflect.
Delight yourself in the Lord.
Commit your way to the Lord.
Trust in the Lord.
Do not be upset because of evildoers.
Do not be envious of wrongdoers.

Now, the next verse…

Psa 37:7

Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him;
Do not get upset because of one who is successful in his way,
Because of the person who carries out wicked schemes.

Rest in the Lord.
“Rest” means “to be still”, “to cease striving”!

Wait patiently for the Lord.
“Patiently” means “longingly”.
We are to wait longing for the Lord.

Do not be upset because of the “success” of wicked schemers.

God’s timing Is perfect.
His ways are perfect.

Wait upon the Lord to do what He has promised.
The timing will be perfect. Happy
He will deal with the wicked schemer.
He will bless His.

“He Will Bring Righteousness and Judgment”

April 28, 2021

“He Will Bring Righteousness and Judgment”

Blessings folk!

Remember!

Psa 37:4-5
Delight yourself in the LORD;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

Delight yourself in the Lord.
Commit your way to the Lord.
Trust in the Lord

He will give you the desires of your heart.
He will do it.
Again, He will do it!

Do what?
Well, give you the desires of your heart.
But, remember the context of the Psalm to this point.

Read…

Psa 37:6
He will bring out your righteousness as the light,
And your judgment as the noonday.

The Lord will bring out your righteousness.
He will bring you judgment.

Remember verse one?

Psa 37:1
A Psalm of David.
Do not get upset because of evildoers,
Do not be envious of wrongdoers.

David had learned the lesson of being upset and envious of wrongdoers.

The Lord will deal with them.

The Lord will reveal their evil.

The Lord will reveal our righteousness.
The Lord will judge and find favor on our behalf.

Fret not over the evil doers.

Delight.
Commit.
Trust.
In the Lord.

“Delight In the Lord”

Blessings folk!

Well, that is interesting.

The oligarchical-information-controlling-powers-that-be fact-checked the Psalm 37 comments from yesterday.

Seriously.

I have no doubt that the enemy does not want us to know these truths.
- That we are to trust in the Lord
- That we are to do good
- That we are to live in the land
- That we are to cultivate faithfulness
- That we are not to be upset nor envious of wrongdoers
- That wrongdoers will be done away with…

So, we press on.

The next verse tells us what to do…

Psa 37:4
Delight yourself in the LORD;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.

We are to “delight” ourselves in the Lord.
Not in the soul.
Not in the flesh.
In the Lord.

We are to take pleasure in the Lord.

If we delight in the Lord, then something will happen.

The Lord will give you the desires of your heart.

Not because your heart is pure.
Not because you “get what you want”.
But rather, our heart will be aligned with what the Lord desires to do.

Delight in the Lord=heart aligned with desires of the Lord.

The Word gives us warning about asking with the wrong motive of heart.

Jas 4:3
You ask and do not receive,
because you ask with the wrong motives,
so that you may spend what you request on your pleasures.

Determine today to delight in the Lord, in nothing else.

“Trust in the Lord. Do Good."

April 26, 2021

“Trust in the Lord. Do Good."

Blessings folk!

Let us be reminded of the Truth of the Lord found in a Psalm of David.

I suspect that many of us need to know and be reminded of these truths.

In considering what is occurring in the world today, fear not. Fret not.

Hear the Word of the Lord…

Psa 37:1-3
A Psalm of David.

Do not get upset because of evildoers,
Do not be envious of wrongdoers.

For they will wither quickly like the grass,
And decay like the green plants.

Trust in the LORD and do good;
Live in the land and cultivate faithfulness.

The instruction and commandment is forthright.

Let us do so.

Do not be upset because of evildoers.
Do not be envious of wrongdoers.
They will wither.
They will decay.
They will pass as the grass and plants of the field.

Do trust in the Lord.
Do good…in the Lord.
Live in the land…in the Lord.
Cultivate faithfulness…in the Lord.

Do these things.
Then, speak/do as the Lord leads in addressing evil and wrong.

“Accurately Handle the Word of Truth”

April 25, 2021

“Accurately Handle the Word of Truth”

Blessings folk!

Paul is exhorting Timothy.

It is a needed word for today…

2 Ti 2:15
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

There are many that should be ashamed.
I suspect that most do not even know shame.

So many mishandle the Word of God.

The “mishandling” occurs in several ways.

They ignore it.
They twist it.
They manipulate it.
They pervert it.
They mis-read it.
They mis-interpret it.
They mis-apply it.

Sometime it is innocent of heart.
They are ignorant…as we all are in most things.
Ignorant=unlearned.

But, many…most?,… have an agenda afoot.

They are not diligent in accurately handling the Word of Truth.
They are not diligent in presenting themselves approved to God.
They use the Word as a pretext to speak of their thoughts, not the thoughts of God.

So many are so “cute”.

The Spirit is grieved.

It is becoming more difficult to find someone who truly preaches and teaches the full counsel of the Word of God.

“Which?”

Blessings folk!

As we saw yesterday, difficult days lie ahead.

But fear not!

The Lord our God is with us.

Two quick thoughts.

Why difficult days?
The Lord has forewarned us.
Remember this…

Jdg 21:25
In those days there was no king in Israel;
everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

This is the problem with the world.
This is the problem with many who profess to be Believers.
They do what they think is right.
They do what they want to do…in their own eyes.

Still, fear not!

Those that know the Lord will do great things.

How do I know?
Because the Word tells us…

Dan 12:3
“And those who have insight will shine like the glow of the expanse of heaven,
and those who lead the many to righteousness,
like the stars forever and ever.

So, what will you choose?
Will you do what is right in your own eyes?
Will you have the insight of the Lord and do as He leads?

“Peace. Grace.”

April 22, 2021

“Peace. Grace.”

Blessings folk!

Paul closes his letter to the Believers in Thessaloniki.

There is much to be learned and gleaned from these type of passages.
Do not just glance through them.
Read.
Think.
Meditate.
Seek the Lord.

2 Th 3:16-18

Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance.
The Lord be with you all!

I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand,
and this is a distinguishing mark in every letter;
this is the way I write.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Paul declared the Peace of the Lord upon them.
Yes!
Peace is from the Lord.
If you do not have peace, then you are not abiding in the Lord.
The Lord will grant peace in every circumstance, if we walk in Him.
The Lord is with us.

Paul confirmed that he was the one writing, though he usually used someone else to do the actual writing down.
Paul wrote the closing greeting in his own hand to verify that it was him!

What does that tell us?

There were already folk that were seeking to fraudulently represent their writings as Paul’s!
Paul mentions this type of thing in other places…remember this?

2 Th 2:2
that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit, or a message, or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.

Paul then closes by speaking the grace of the Lord upon them.

May we do likewise.

“Admonish As A Brother/Sister”

Blessings folk!

Paul has more to say about the person that might not want to follow the instructions in this letter.

He told the people to “not associate” with said person, but wait!
There is more. Happy

2 Th 3:14-15

If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter,
take special note of that person so as not to associate with him,
so that he will be put to shame.

And yet do not regard that person as an enemy,
but admonish that one as a brother or sister.

We are to take note of those who refuse the Word of the Lord.
Our association with such folk will be distant.
But…
We are not to regard that person as an enemy.
No.
Rather, we are to admonish them as a brother/sister.

This fellow believer is to be handled in love.
We admonish in love.
We “take special note” in love.
We speak the truth in love…

Eph 4:15
but speaking the truth in love,
we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, that is, Christ,

Love is manifested in speaking truth.

“Take Special Note…”

Blessings folk!

Paul had given much instruction to the Thessalonians…and us.

He is closing the letter.

Read this!

2 Th 3:14

If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter,
take special note of that person so as not to associate with him,
so that he will be put to shame.

Paul acknowledged that there might be some who would not obey his instructions.

You saw what Paul said to do.
- Take special note of that person
- Do not associate with him
- So that he will be put to shame

Our society/“church” views such as “rude” and “un-christ-like”.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The goal of this “non-association” is the restoration of the person.

We see this in other “church discipline” passages in the Word.

The goal is restoration.
Restoration in truth.
Restoration in love.
Restoration from repentance from sin.

The Lord is clear.

“Busybodies”

April 19, 2021

“Busybodies”

Blessing saints!

Blessed Patriot’s Day to you.

You likely do not know what that is…that’s ok.
Check out what has happened through the years on April 19.
Dig deep…some things are hidden/banned now-a-days.

Paul was speaking a needed Word to the Thessalonians.

We need it even more, as some of you have replied!

We saw where Paul had said “not willing to work, you do not eat”…

2 Th 3:10
For even when we were with you,
we used to give you this order:
if anyone is not willing to work,
then he is not to eat, either.

This is a serious problem in our society.

Many are being slow boiled and do not know it…ask the frog in the pot.

Even true Believers are buying into the lie of “support” by governmental entities.

Give me an example of that ever working out.

Paul was not finished.

2 Th 3:11-12
For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life,
doing no work at all,
but acting like busybodies.

Now we command and exhort such persons in the Lord Jesus Christ to work peacefully
and eat their own bread.

Paul had heard about some of their undisciplined sloth.
Some were doing no work at all.
They were “acting like busybodies”.
I like this definition of the Greek word “busybody” - “to bustle about uselessly, to busy one's self about trifling, needless, useless matters.”
That’s about it.

Paul commanded such to quit.

He exhorted them to…
- work peacefully
- eat their own bread

The phrase “we command and exhort such persons in the Lord Jesus Christ…”

Was Paul speaking to those “in the Lord Jesus Christ”?
Was Paul speaking “in the Lord Jesus Christ”?

I suspect both.

Reject the largesse of the world and press on in the faith of the Lord.

“Not Eat…"

April 18, 2021

“Not Eat…"

Blessings folk!

The Lord had warned the Thessalonians about living an undisciplined life.

He now give some more insight.

2 Th 3:10
For even when we were with you,
we used to give you this order:
if anyone is not willing to work,
then he is not to eat, either.

Paul had told them.

No one was to eat from the coffers of the Body if they were unwilling to work.

We see the wisdom of this advice in our world today…in a negative sense.

Note that one had to be “willing to work”.

Often, someone wants to work, but is unable to due to physical problems.
There is no condemnation of such.

What is being addressed here is laziness, slothfulness, taking advantage of one another.
The evil of the world are taking advantage of this.

Many businesses can not find enough employees.
People “make” more money staying at home “on the dole” than they do working.
So, they lazily stay.

This is being done purposefully.
It has an agenda.
An evil agenda.
To destroy the spirit of the person, especially men.
To destroy families.
To destroy small businesses.
To destroy the free-market economy.

Do not succumb to the strategy of the world.

Work!
Meet the needs of others…beginning with the Body of Christ.

“Offer Ourselves”

April 17, 2021

“Offer Ourselves”

Blessings folk!

What did Paul and entourage do to live as an example before the Thessalonians…an example of a non-disorderly life?

2 Th 3:7-9
For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example,
because we did not act in an undisciplined way among you,

nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it,
but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day
so that we would not be a burden to any of you;

not because we do not have the right to this,
but in order to offer ourselves as a role model for you,
so that you would follow our example.

They did not act in an undisciplined way.

They worked.
They labored.
They pressed on in hardship.
They did not eat anyone’s bread without paying.

Their goal was to not be a burden to the Thessalonians.

According to the Lord, they had a right to be supported.
But, they chose to offer themselves as a role model.
A model to be followed.

What model do we provide?
Are we disciplined?
Do we labor?
Do we do the work of the Kingdom?

“Example. Role Model”

Blessings folk!

Paul had told the Thessalonians/us to keep away from brothers/sisters that led and undisciplined/disorderly life…

2 Th 3:6
Now we command you,
brothers and sisters,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that you keep away from every brother or sister who leads a disorderly life and not one in accordance with the tradition which you received from us.

The next few verses give us much more insight as to what he meant.

2 Th 3:7-9
For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example,
because we did not act in an undisciplined way among you,

nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it,
but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day
so that we would not be a burden to any of you;

not because we do not have the right to this,
but in order to offer ourselves as a role model for you,
so that you would follow our example.

Paul told them to follow his example.
Paul says this several times in his letters to the Thessalonians.

He told them that he was a role model for them.
Think on this.

We are to live in such a way that we can exhort people to follow the example we set.
We are to be role models.

Do we do so?

This is not religious, pious arrogance.
This is the way of the Lord.

“Keep Away…”

April 15, 2021

“Keep Away…”

Blessings folk!

Paul continued his instruction to the Thessalonians…and us.

2 Th 3:6
Now we command you,
brothers and sisters,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that you keep away from every brother or sister who leads a disorderly life and not one in accordance with the tradition which you received from us.

Note this is a command.
Note that he is speaking to “brothers and sisters” - true believers.

The command was/is in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul had this command from the Lord, by the power of the Lord.

What is the command?
To keep away from every brother or sister who leads a disorderly life.

What is a “disorderly life”?
Paul tells us.
A life not in accordance with the tradition which he had taught them.

Note who was “disorderly”.
Brothers and sisters.
They were believers, yet they were doing something “disorderly”.

The other brother and sisters were to “keep away”, or remain “aloof” as Titus says.

Not for the sake of punishment per se, but for the sake of restoring them to true fellowship with the Body.

This is a bit of insight into “church discipline”.

Matthew 18, 1 Corinthians and Titus reveal more.

We are not to be rude.
We are not to be mean.
We are not to be arrogant.
We are not to be piously self-righteous.
We are to confront one another with the truth.
If someone refuses to turn from their “disorderliness…sin”, then we remain aloof.
We keep away.

“The Lord Direct Your Hearts…”

Blessings folk!

Paul asked the Thessalonians to pray for him…

2 Th 3:1-2
Finally, brothers and sisters,
pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified,
just as it was also with you;

and that we will be rescued from troublesome and evil people;
for not all have the faith.

Paul then encourages and exhorts them.

2 Th 3:3-5
But the Lord is faithful,
and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

We have confidence in the Lord concerning you,
that you are doing,
and will do, what we command.

May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God
and to the perseverance of Christ.

Rejoice in this!
Live in this!

The Lord is faithful.
The Lord will strengthen you.
The Lord will protect you from the evil one.

Paul had confidence in the Lord…not just in himself…in the Lord…concerning them.
They were doing what Paul commanded.
He knew that they would continue to do so.

Then, this great thought.
It is the Lord that directs our hearts.

Finally,
brothers and sisters,
pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified,

and that we will be rescued from troublesome and evil people; for not all have the faith.

Paul called for his brothers and sisters in the faith to pray for him.

To pray that the Word of the Lord would spread rapidly.
To pray that the Word of the Lord would be glorified.
To pray that the Word would be received as it had been among them.

Paul also asked for prayer related to troublesome and evil people.

comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.

Give close heed and rejoice in this doxological declaration.

Paul was calling for “our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father” to do something.

Paul wanted the Lord/Father to comfort.
Paul wanted the Lord/Father to strengthen their hearts.
Comfort and strengthen in every good work and word.

The same God who loved them…and us.
The same God who gave them…and us…eternal comfort.
The same God who gave them…and us…good hope by His grace.

This is what the Lord does for those who believe.
He loves.
He gives eternal comfort.
He gives good hope by grace.
He strengthens our heart in every good work and word.

Therefore, why worry?
Why fret?
Why walk in anything other way than the very Presence of the Lord?

“Traditions”

April 11, 2021

“Traditions”

Blessings folk!

Quick word for today.

2 Th 2:15
So then, brothers and sisters,
stand firm and hold on to the traditions which you were taught,
whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.

Paul exhorted them to stand firm and to hold on.

“Hold on” to what?
The traditions that he had taught them.
Traditions he spoke to them.
Traditions he communicated by letter.

We often think that “traditions” are a bad thing.

Not so.

There are good traditions, as those of Paul's.
There are bad conditions, as here…

Mar 7:6-8
But He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written:
‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS,
BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.

‘AND IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME,
TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE COMMANDMENTS OF MEN.’

“Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.”

What is the difference?

Jesus warned those who neglected the commandment of God and held to the tradition of men.
The tradition of men did not align with the commandment of God.
Do not follow such tradition.

Paul’s tradition aligned with the Word of God.
How do we know?
We have some of Paul’s teaching and writing in the Word.
It aligns with God.

Follow the tradition of God, not the traditions of man.

“Obtain the Glory”

April 10, 2021

“Obtain the Glory”

Blessings folk!

Do you believe?
That Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.

Have you repented?
Of sin, etc.

Those who believe are chosen and called.

Hear the Word of the Lord.

2 Th 2:13
But we should always give thanks to God for you,
brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord,
because God has chosen you from the beginning
for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.

Chosen from the beginning.
Chosen for salvation through/in sanctification.
By the Spirit.
By faith in truth.

2Th 2:14
It was for this He called you through our gospel,
that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Those who believe are called.
Called through the gospel - the good news.
Called to obtained the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Think on that.

We are chosen and called to obtain His glory.

Do we walk in the glory He had given?
Do we manifest His glory in all things?

“Thanks for God’s Choosing…”

April 9, 2021

“Thanks for God’s Choosing…”

Blessings folk!

People will not believe the truth.
People will believe the deception of the man of lawlessness.
Because of this, the Lord will send a deluding spirit upon them.
They will be judged because they took pleasure in wickedness.

The Lord continues…

2 Th 2:13

But we should always give thanks to God for you,
brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord,
because God has chosen you from the beginning
for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.

Paul gave thanks to God for them.

We should do likewise for OneAnother.

Give thanks!
To whom?
The Beloved, brothers and sisters in Christ.

Why?
Because God has chosen them (and us!) from the beginning.

The “beginning” of what?
Before the foundations of the earth!!

Chosen?
Yes!
Chosen for salvation.
Salvation through sanctification.
By the Spirit.
By faith in the Truth.

Give thanks to the Lord for His choosing of us.

Now, live out that thanks!

“God Will Send A Deluding Influence”

April 8, 2021

“God Will Send A Deluding Influence”

Blessings folk!

The next verse in our examination begins with “for this reason…”.
Of course, we must ask, “what reason”?

Remember what the Lord has told us.

The lawless one will be revealed.
The lawless one comes in accordance with the activity of satan.
The lawless one will perform false signs, false wonders and will have power.
The lawless one will have tremendous deception of wickedness.
People will follow him.
People will reject the truth that could save them.
The Lord will eliminate him.

2 Th 2:8-10
Then that lawless one will be revealed,
whom the Lord will eliminate with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;

that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan,
with all power and false signs and wonders,

and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish,
because they did not accept the love of the truth so as to be saved.

For this reason…because they did not accept the love of the truth so as to be saved…

2 Th 2:11-12
For this reason
God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,

in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth,
but took pleasure in wickedness.

Since they refused to believe, God will send upon them a deluding influence.
They will believe what is false.
These are the ones who take pleasure in wickedness.

We see foreshadowing of this now, but nothing compared to what is to come.

Believe the truth.
Do not be deceived.

“With All Power, False Signs, Wonder"

April 6, 2021

“With All Power, False Signs, Wonder"

Blessings folk!

Read these verses - one sentence - again.

2 Th 2:8-10
Then that lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will eliminate with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;

that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan,
with all power and false signs and wonders,

and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish,
because they did not accept the love of the truth so as to be saved.

We see that the the Lord will eliminate the lawless one.
Then we see more details about the lawless one and his activities.

He will come in accord with the activity of Satan.
That is interesting.
He will be Satan’s minion.
He will be empowered by Satan.

How do I know?

The Word says so - “with all power and false signs and wonders”.

The man of lawlessness will have power.
He will perform false signs.
He will perform false wonders.
They are real signs and wonders.

He will be a master manipulator and deceiver.
He will use “all” the deception of wickedness to deceived.

Many will perish.
Who will die?
Those who did not accept the love of the truth so as to be saved.

Fear not!
The Lord is victorious.

OneAnother Lesson 2

OneAnother Lesson 2

The Word: Episode 1616 Matthew 5:17-20

“The Lord Will Eliminate…”

April 5, 2021

“The Lord Will Eliminate…”

Blessings folk!

2 Th 2:6-7
And you know what restrains him now,
so that in his time he will be revealed.
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work;
only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.

I believe that Michael is the restrainer.
He is the one that keep the spirit of the man of lawlessness under restraint until such time that Michael will “arise”…cease what he is doing.

Michael is still restraining.
The man of lawlessness has yet to be revealed.

Read what happens.
Let us read the entire sentence…three verses…

2 Th 2:8-10
Then that lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will eliminate with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;

that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan,
with all power and false signs and wonders,

and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish,
because they did not accept the love of the truth so as to be saved.

We learn much in this sentence.
Focus on verse 8.

The lawless one will be revealed.
He will no longer be hidden nor secret.

The Lord will eliminate the lawless one.
Keep this in mind as you learn more and more about these days yet to come.
The Lord is victorious.

The Lord will eliminate him “with the breath of His mouth”.
The Lord will bring the mans of lawlessness to and end by the appearance of His coming.

This is worthy of praise.
This is worthy or rejoicing.

“Michael, the Great Prince”

April 4, 2021

“Michael, the Great Prince”

Blessings folk!

Read Daniel 12:1 one more time…

Dan 12:1
At that time
Michael, the great prince
who stands watch over your people,
will rise up.
There will be a time of distress
such as never has occurred
since nations came into being until that time.
But at that time all your people
who are found written in the book will escape.
CSB

So, here is what I think is going on.

Michael is the great prince that watches over “your people”, the Jewish people and the nation of Israel.

He is watching over them now.

There will be a time when he “will rise up”.

Within the context it does not mean that he “will rise up and do something”.
He is already doing what he is suppose to - standing watch over the people.

But, a time will come when he “will rise up”.
It literally means he will cease doing what he is doing.
In other words he will rise up and cease watching over Israel.

Therefore, “there will be a time of distress such as never has occurred”.

Note how long.
“Since nations came into being until that time.”

Think about that.
There will be time of distress unlike anything that they had faced before.
Worse than the…

  • Assyrias
  • Babylonians
…and yet future to that time…
  • Greeks
  • Romans
  • Nazis
  • etc.

Then there is hope.

“But at that time all your people who are found written in the book will escape.”

So, as to 2 Thessalonians.

I believe the restrainer mentioned by Paul is Michael.
Nothing to argue about.
Nothing to separate fellowship over.

This understand does give insight to the balance of Scripture.

“Restrained Now”

April 3, 2021

“Restrained Now”

Blessings folk!

Have you been thinking about these things that Paul told the Thessalonians?

Remember, they had just heard the gospel and believed.
They had just begun to receive the Word.
And yet, this is information that Paul taught.

Hummm…

Makes one think that perhaps we would do well to learn it also.

Read the passage again…

2 Th 2:6-7
And you know what restrains him now,
so that in his time he will be revealed.

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work;
only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.

The “him” in verse 6 the man of lawlessness mentioned in the previous verses.

Think about that.
Read what is said.

He, the man of lawlessness, is restrained now…at the time of the writing.
He was restrained…and still is…so that in his time he will be revealed.
He was and is…and has yet to be revealed.

In verse 7 we see that something is at work - the mystery of lawlessness.
This mystery is at work, yet restrained.

A “he” is restraining now.
Still is.
Restraining will continue until “he” is taken out of the way.

Hang on…

We saw yesterday that the NASB2020 capitalized “He”, thereby inferring that is the Lord Jesus referenced in this passage.
Nope.
Wrong.
Very common belief, though.

Some believe the “He” is the Holy Spirit.
No.

The “he” should be lower-case.

Read Daniel 12:1…in several translations…

Dan 12:1
At that time
Michael, the great prince
who stands watch over your people,
will rise up.
There will be a time of distress
such as never has occurred
since nations came into being until that time.
But at that time all your people
who are found written in the book will escape.
CSB

Dan 12:1
And at that time shall Michael stand up,
the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people:
and there shall be a time of trouble,
such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time:
and at that time thy people shall be delivered,
every one that shall be found written in the book.
KJV

Dan 12:1
“Now at that time Michael,
the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people,
will arise.
And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred
since there was a nation until that time;
and at that time your people,
everyone who is found written in the book,
will be rescued.

What is being said in Daniel 12:1?
What does this have to do with what Paul is telling the Thessalonians?

Good stuff…

“He Who Now Restrains…”

April 2, 2021

“He Who Now Restrains…”

Blessings folk!

Paul was reminding the Thessalonians to remember the things he had taught them.

2 Th 2:5
Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?

Now, read the next two verses…

2 Th 2:6-7
And you know what restrains him now,
so that he will be revealed in his time.

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work;
only He who now restrains will do so until He is removed.

Consider the context.
Observe the facts we are told.

Who is “him”?
The “man of lawlessness”…from verses 3-4.

Something “restrains” the man of lawlessness.
The man of lawlessness “will be revealed in is time”, but is restrained at the moment.
The mystery of lawlessness is already at work.
He who restrains will do so…continue…until “He” is removed.

Notice how “He” is capitalized.

These verse are from the New American Standard 2020 translation - NASB2020.

Read the NASB 1995…

2 Th 2:6-7
And you know what restrains him now,
so that in his time he will be revealed.

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work;
only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.

The “he” in verse seven is in lower caps.

Punctuation is a form of commentary!

The 2020 edition is making a subtle (ultimately erroneous) statement of fact.
They are hinting…declaring?… as to an interpretation.

That is the reason that we read/search/use varied translations.

What/who do you think the “restrainer” is?
What have you heard/been taught?
What have you learned from the Word?

…to be continued…

“Know the Things of the Lord”

April 1, 2021

“Know the Things of the Lord”

Blessings folk!

2 Th 2:5
Do you not remember that while I was still with you,
I was telling you these things?

Paul had told the Thessalonians about “these things”…the gospel, that the Messiah had come, that the Lord would return.

Do we know these things?

The Lord has given us a vast treasure trove of information and insight.
It is called “The Bible”.

We would do well to read, learn the Bible…constantly, without delay, without hesitation.

No one ever “masters” the Bible, yet we can grow in our knowledge daily.
We can allow the Spirit of the Lord to speak.

Sadly, most believers do not.
At best they do a “devotion”…usually a short thought of man based upon a snippet of a portion of the word.
We then feel we have been “devote” for a moment, so all is well, then we go about our lives as we want.

Such should not be.

We must allow the Lord to transform us by the renewing of our mind through His Word, His Spirit and his Body.
We must be conformed to His likeness.
We must not be conformed to the world.

Rom 12:1-2
Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Transformed…from one thing into another.
Conformed…pressed into the patter of something.
Know the things of the Lord - personally.
Live the things of the Lord - personally.
Manifest the power of the Lord - personally.
