"Refuse, Choose, Consider"

February 28, 2017

“Refuse, Choose, Consider”

Blessings folk!

Read the passage again…

Heb 11:24-26

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,

choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,

considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt;
for he was looking to the reward.

Moses made three decisions in this account.

  1. He refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. Why? The next decision explains.

  1. He chose to endure ill-treatment with the people of God. He ill-treatment rather than the passing pleasures of sin - the Egyptian life available to him.

  1. He considered the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt.

The reproach of Christ.

Moses knew something.
The Lord had revealed something to him.
He likely was not able to express it in the terminology of New Covenant as we see here, but he knew of Christ to come.
He looked toward a reward yet to come.

So, by faith, Moses…
  • refused a life of luxury and high-esteem
  • chose ill-treatment rather than the passing pleasures of sin
  • considered the reproach of Christ greater than the riches of the treasures of Egypt
  • looked to the reward

Do we?

Refuse sin and the ways of the world.
Chose the way of the Lord.
Consider and embrace the reproach of Christ.
Look for the reward to come.

“By Faith: Moses Refused…”

February 27, 2017

“By Faith: Moses Refused…”

Blessings folk!

By faith Moses’ parents defied the king’s edict.
They would not throw their son in the river.
By faith they obeyed the Lord…there was purpose for Moses.

By faith Moses, when he was grown…

Heb 11:24-26

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,

choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,

considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt;
for he was looking to the reward.

There is much here.
Look closely.

Moses was grown.
He refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.
He knew he was not of Pharaoh’s line.

How?

A couple of things.

One, conjecture.

I suspect he knew because he was circumcised.
His parents would have been obedient to the commandment of the Lord.
He carried the mark/evidence in his body.

Second, there is fact.

Act 7:21-24

“And after he had been set outside,
Pharaoh’s daughter took him away and nurtured him as her own son.

“Moses was educated in all the learning of the Egyptians,
and he was a man of power in words and deeds.

“But when he was approaching the age of forty,
it entered his mind to visit his brethren, the sons of Israel.

“And when he saw one of them being treated unjustly,
he defended him and took vengeance for the oppressed by striking down the Egyptian.

Did you see it?

What caused Moses to refuse the life he was experiencing?
He was Pharaoh’s daughter’s son.
He was nurtured by her.
He was educated in all learning of the Egyptians.
He was a man of power in words and deeds.
Was he being prepared for Egyptian leadership?

He had it “all”.

What happened?

“It entered his mind…”

Wonder where that came from? Happy

The Lord placed it within his mind to visit his brethren, the sons of Israel…

We will continue later.

For now, by faith Moses listened.
His parents refused the king’s edict.
He refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.
They refuse the way of the world.
They embraced the way of faith.

Do we?

“By Faith: Not Afraid of the King’s Edict”

February 26, 2017

“By Faith: Not Afraid of the King’s Edict”

Blessings folk!

By faith!

We live by faith!

Living the life of faith will not always be easy.

Often, we must “go against the grain”.

Heed this example of faith…

Hebrews 11:23

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.

Who had the faith?
If we do not read carefully we will think Moses.
No!

Moses’ parents.

What did they do by faith?

  • hid Moses for three months

Why?
  • because they saw that he was a beautiful child

They were not afraid of the king’s edict.

What was the edict?

Exodus 1:22

Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying,
“Every son who is born you are to cast into the Nile, and every daughter you are to keep alive.”

Moses parents were compelled by the commandment of Pharaoh to cast Moses into the Nile.
To kill him.

They refused.

They rested and trusted in the Lord to provide a solution.

We should do likewise.

Too many Believers are confused about the proper role of government.
They basically state that a Believer must submit to “power” regardless.
They often quote Romans 13 and 1 Peter 2.
They are in error.
They are motivated more by fear than the truth of the Word.

Believers must stand firm in the Lord and His Word.

One last thought.

Moses’ parents saw that he was a beautiful child.
Is that the reason that they sought to spare him?

The Word tells us…

Acts 7:20

“It was at this time that Moses was born; and he was lovely in the sight of God,
and he was nurtured three months in his father’s home.

The word “beautiful” in Hebrews 11 and “lovely” in Acts 7 are the same Greek word.

Moses was lovely in the sight of God.

They knew this.
They stood with God.
They feared not man and his edicts.

Do likewise.

“Joseph: Bones”

February 25, 2017

“Joseph: Bones”

Blessings folk!

We resume where we left off three months ago…thought I forgot, huh? Happy

By faith!

Remember, Hebrews 11 is a great “gallery of faith” that the Lord has given us.
A reminder of those who have gone before.
Their faith.
Their lives.

Hebrews 11:22

By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the exodus of the sons of Israel,
and gave orders concerning his bones.

Well, that doesn’t sound too exciting?
But it is.

By faith Joseph knew that the day would come when his people would return to the land that the Lord had given.

Gen 50:24-26

Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will surely take care of you and bring you up from this land to the land which He promised on oath to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob.”

Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely take care of you,
and you shall carry my bones up from here.”

So Joseph died at the age of one hundred and ten years;
and he was embalmed and placed in a coffin in Egypt.

By faith, Joseph…

  • knew that God would take care of them
  • knew that God would return them to the Promised land
  • made the sons of Israel swear to take his bones up from there to there

This was not some strange icon worship or process.
This was a sign of faith before the people.

By faith, Joseph…
  • believed in life after death
  • believed that God would resurrect
  • believed that God would fulfill His promises

The children of Israel did as instructed…

Exodus 13:19

Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had made the sons of Israel solemnly swear, saying, “God will surely take care of you, and you shall carry my bones from here with you.”

Joshua 24:32

Now they buried the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel brought up from Egypt, at Shechem, in the piece of ground which Jacob had bought from the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for one hundred pieces of money; and they became the inheritance of Joseph’s sons.

May we live by faith!

“Believe: The Ruler of the World Is Coming”

February 24, 2017

“Believe: The Ruler of the World Is Coming”

Blessings folk!

Jesus had told His disciples much.
Very much. (See the past few posts&hellipWinking

They were confused.
They were questioning.
They were being challenged.
They thought they knew what was to occur.

Now, Jesus is telling them that He is leaving.

John 14:29-31

“Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.

“I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming,
and he has nothing in Me;

but so that the world may know that I love the Father,
I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here.

Jesus had told them many things that were to occur.
He told them before it happened.
There was a purpose for the telling - so that they may believe.

Jesus time of speaking to them face-to-face was drawing to an end.

Something was about to occur.

The ruler of the world…satan…was coming.
(Why is satan “ruler of the world”? Because man abdicated his God-given role of having dominion over creation when he rebelled against God.)
Yet, satan has nothing in Jesus.
Victory was already won…from the foundations of the earth.

Jesus did exactly as Father commanded Him…so that the world will know that He loves Father.

Then, an abrupt word…..”let us go from here.”

Jesus walked in obedience before Father.
So should we.

Believe.
Abide.
Obey.

Then rejoice in what the Lord does.

"Peace I Leave With You..."

February 23, 2017

“Peace I Leave With You…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus is coming to an end of His corporeal time on earth.
He is coming to the end of His time, in this manner, with the disciples.

Give heed to His Word…

John 14:27-28

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.
Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful
.

You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

Jesus returns to where He started - “let not your heart be troubled…nor let it be fearful.”
How?
Why?
Because Jesus left them with peace.
Jesus gave them peace.
He does likewise with us.

Have not peace?
Examine yourself.
If you truly be of the faith, then you have the peace of the Lord within…the Spirit.
Quench not the Spirit and peace will reign.
If you are not of the faith, then peace is not there, only the soulish emotions of the flesh.
Only the “peace” of the world that leaves one in “pieces”.

Jesus calls them to rejoice.
So should we.
Why?
Because of what He had told them.
He was going away.
He would return.
Those who love Him will rejoice in this because He went to Father.
Father is greater.

Jesus lived, died and rose again from death that we might be able to be brought into correct relationship with Father.

The Divine Mystery of Father/Son/Spirit working to redeem a rebellious creation.
All by love.

Rejoice!

“I Have Spoken to You…”

February 22, 2017

“I Have Spoken to You…”

Blessings folk!

John 14:25
These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you.”

Jesus said this.
What things had He spoken while abiding with them?

Just in this portion of the Word (John 14) He said…

  • do not let your heart be troubled
  • believe God
  • believe Me
  • in My Father’s house are many dwelling places
  • I go to prepare a place for you
  • I will come again
  • I will receive you
  • where I am, you may be
  • you know the way where I am going
  • I am the way, the truth and the life
  • no one come the Father but through Me
  • if you know Me, you know Father
  • you have known and seen Father through Me
  • I speak Words of the Father abiding in Me
  • believe that I am in Father and Father is in Me
  • believe the works
  • he who believes will do greater works than I
  • I go to the Father
  • whatever you ask in My name I will do
  • if you love Me, keep My commandments
  • I will ask Father, He will give another Helper
  • Helper will be with you forever
  • I will not leave you as orphans
  • I will come to you
  • world will not see Me after a little while
  • you will see Me
  • I live, you live also
  • the one who has My commandments and keeps them loves Me
  • he who loves Me will be loved by My Father
  • I will love him
  • I will disclose Myself to him
  • I and Father will abide in him, he who loves Us
  • He who does not love Me does not keep My words.

An overwhelming revelation of Word and Knowledge.

We know how we feel when we read this.

How must the disciples have felt when they heard it?

Jesus knew this.

Therefore, He says…

John 14:26
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name,
He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

A Helper was coming.
The Holy Spirit.
Father will send the Spirit in Jesus’ name.
The Spirit will teach us all things.
The Spirit will bring to remembrance all that the Lord said.

Hallelujah!
We do not have to worry and fret about “remembering”.
We are to take in the Word of the Lord.
Empowered by the Spirit He will release it in His timing!

Do not quench the Spirit.
Allow Him to move as He desires.

“Father’s Word”

Blessings folk!

Judas asked Jesus a question…

John 14:22
Judas (not Iscariot) *said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?”

Jesus began His reply…

John 14:23
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.

Love Jesus?
Keep His Word
Father will love such one.
We…Father/Son/Spirit…will come to him and make Our abode with him.

Then, this…

John 14:24
“He who does not love Me does not keep My words;
and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

Do not love Jesus?
Does not keep His Words.

Love of Jesus and keeping of His Word go together.

One can not “love Jesus” while denying His Word…not keeping His Word.

Jesus then tells them that His Words are coming from Father Who sent Him.

He was disclosing Himself to His disciples.

He has disclosed Himself to us.

Do we believe?
Do we obey?

So, do you love God?
Hear what the Lord said.

John 14:21
“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”

Judas then asked a great question.

John 14:22
Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?”

Jesus had been with the disciples privately and with the world publicly.
Now He says that He will disclose Himself to the one who loves Him.

Judas wants to know what had happened.
What has changed?
Why not “to the world”?

Jesus answers…give very close attention…

John 14:23
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word;
and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.

Jesus does not begin with answering Judas’ “what” question.
Jesus builds upon His previous statement and reveals a “how”.

If we love Him…
If we keep His Word…

Then..

Father will love him…
We…Father and Jesus…will come to him and make Our abode in him.

What did the Lord disclose?

He began to reveal the reality of the life the Believer in the resurrected Christ.
Christ in each True Believer.
God abiding in us.

Life beyond anything they could imagine.
Life beyond what we can imagine.

We live limited lives of fear in the flesh.
The Lord calls us to life abundant via His indwelling.

Quench Him not.

“Keep Commandments”

Blessings folk!

Who truly loves Father and Son?
How do we know if we truly love them?

John 14:21

“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”

The one who loves Father and Son…

  • has the commandments of the Lord
  • keeps the commandments of the Lord

We “have His commandments” by responding to Him, by repentance, confession, belief.
We keep His commandments by the power of the Spirit.

The one who loves Jesus will be loved by Father.

If we do so, Jesus will love us.
He will disclose Himself to us.

What does that mean?
We will see tomorrow.

For today, love the Son.
Keep His commandments.

February 18, 2017

“I In Him, You In Me”

Blessings folk!

Jesus continues to teach His disciples.
Jesus continues to answer Philip’s inquiry about Father.

Give heed to the statements.
They were for them.
They are for us.

John 14:18-20
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

“After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me;
because I live, you will live also.

“In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

Jesus will not leave us as orphans.
We are not abandoned.
He had told them He was leaving.
They could not go where He was going…at that time.

Jesus will come.
He will return.
To them.
To us.

The world would not longer see Him, after awhile.
Yet, they would see Him.

Jesus would live.
A preemptive Word of encouragement since Jesus had been warning of His impending death.

Since Jesus lives, we will live also.

Then, in that day, they would know that Jesus is in His Father, and they in Him, He in them. Happy

True Believers are indwelled by the Spirit…Jesus…God.
We are in Him.
He is in us.

Yes, a mystery.
Yes, life beyond anything the world can imagine.

Why would we choose any other way?

“Another Helper”

Blessings folk!

Jesus continues talking to His disciples.

We have seen that He has told them to…
  • let not your heart be troubled
  • believe God
  • believe Me
  • believe, believe, believe
  • ask in His name
  • love Me
  • keep My commandments

He continues…

John 14:15-17

“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;

that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

Jesus told them He would give Another.
Another of the same kind…same “kind” as He.

Note the detail.

Jesus will ask Father.
Father will give another Helper.
The Helper will be with us forever.

The Helper is named - the Spirit of Truth.

The world cannot receive the Spirit.
Why?
Because the world does not see Him or know Him.

They/we know Him because He abides in us.
The Spirit is in you…in each true Believer.

So, the Spirit…

  • Giving by Father at the behest of Jesus
  • Helper
  • With us forever (that is interesting…into all eternity? Apparently&hellipWinking
  • Spirit of Truth
  • Can not be received by the world
  • World does not see Him
  • World does not know Him
  • Abides in us
  • Will be with us.

Today, rejoice in the Spirit.
Quench not the Spirit.

Have not the Spirit?

"If You Love Me..."

February 16, 2017

“If You Love Me…”

Blessings folk!

In His Name!

Whatever we ask in His name He will do…

John 14:13-14
“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
“If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

Remember Jesus is speaking to His disciples on His last night in a corporeal body.

We have seen that He has told them to…

  • let not your heart be troubled
  • believe God
  • believe Me
  • believe, believe, believe
  • ask in His name

He continued to reveal how they, and we, are to do such.

First - believe!

Then know…

John 14:15
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

If we truly love the Lord, we will keep His commandments.

Jesus is not saying that we keep commandments to attain His love.
Jesus is not saying that we love in the flesh, keep His commandments, then we are correct relationship.
No.

When we truly love Him, the fruit will be evident.
We will keep His commandments.
We will heed His instruction.
We will abide in Him.

Jesus tells them more…

But for now, do we truly love Him?
Is such love evidenced by keeping His commandments?

The Word: Episode 0009 Galatians 1:18-20

“In My Name”

February 15, 2017

“In My Name”

Blessings folk!

Greater works.

This is what the Lord said we would do.

Then He says this…

John 14:13-14
“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
“If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

Probably one of the most misunderstood and abused portions of the Word.

Whatever we ask in the Lord Jesus’ name He will do.
Why?
That Father may be glorified in the Son.

If we ask Him anything in His name, He will do it.

This is way beyond the perfunctory “in Jesus name” that is often used at the end of “prayer”.

This goes…
- to having the mind of the Lord.

  • to praying, listening and receiving to know what the Lord wants
  • true prayer…not just a list of “wants”, but a communing and communication with the Most High whereby we know what He wants.

“In His name…” speaks of all that is entailed with Who God is.
He reveals Himself by His traits and characterizations.
Here are a few…

Elohim (God)
Yahweh (Lord, Jehovah)
El Elyon (The Most High God)
Adonai (Lord, Master)
El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty)
El Olam (The Everlasting God)
Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Will Provide)
Jehovah Rapha (The Lord Who Heals You)
Jehovah Nissi (The Lord Is My Banner)
El Qanna (Jealous God)
Jehovah Mekoddishkem (The Lord Who Sanctifies You)
Jehovah Shalom (The Lord Is Peace)
Jehovah Sabaoth (The Lord of Hosts)
Jehovah Raah (The Lord Is My Shepherd)
Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord Our Righteousness)
Jehovah Shammah (The Lord Is There)

When we pray “in His Name” we are praying “in Him”
We pray and receive His mind.

What do we usually do?

James 4:3
You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives,
so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

Pray with correct motive…receiving the Mind of the Lord.
Pray with correct purpose…the Kingdom, not desire of pleasures.

“Works”

“Works”

Blessings folk!

Jesus continues to speak to the disciples.

If you believe…

John 14:12
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also;
and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.

Let us take these statement…promises…one at a time.
Think on them.
Meditate on them.

Jesus says “truly, truly”…listen to Me…hear Me…this is the Truth.

The one who believes in Jesus will do the works that Jesus does.

We will preach the Kingdom.
We will preach the gospel.
We will do all that Jesus did…
- feed the hungry
- heal the sick
- cast out demons
- raise the dead
- proclaim freedom and liberty
- etc.
We will do what He instructs…now!

But, there is more.

We will do greater works!
What?

This likely refers to the sheer amount…the number of Believers, the geographic location of Believers throughout the world.

How can we do such?
Why do we do such?
Because Jesus goes to the Father.

Are we doing the works of the Lord?
Or, are we doing the works of man/flesh “in the name of the Lord’?

Selah

“Believe”

February 13, 2017

“Believe”

Blessings folk!

Jesus responded to Philip’s “show us the Father” comment.

Jesus questioned whether they understood that He was in Father and Father was in Him.
Jesus told the disciple that the Words that He spoke were not His Words.
Rather, the Words were the Work of Father abiding in Him.
That is interesting.

Father abiding in Jesus.
Jesus in Father.

Words of Father are the Works.

Jesus then gives a commandment…an instruction.

John 14:11
“Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me;
otherwise believe because of the works themselves.

Believe.
We are told to believe Jesus.
To believe that He is in Father and Father is in Him.

Then He says this.
If you are having a hard time believing in Father/Son, then believe because of the works themselves.

Believe=have faith.

Have faith in Jesus/Father.

Do we?

If we do have faith, then what might the Lord do through us to His praise, honor and glory?
We will see tomorrow.

For today, believe.
Believe Jesus.
Believe Father.
Rejoice in the peace and joy of belief!

The Word: Episode 0006 Galatians 1:11-12

"In You..."

February 12, 2017

“In You…”

Blessings folk!

Is Father enough for you?
Is Jesus enough for you?
Is Spirit enough for you?

Philip responded curiously to the Lord…

John 14:8
Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”

Hear the beginning of Jesus’ response…

John 14:9-10

Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.

Philip received the correction of the Lord.
A correction for him.
A correction for the disciples.
A correction for all of us.

If you have seen Jesus, you have seen Father.
The disciples were told.
They began to realize…

Father was in Jesus.
Jesus was in Father.

Jesus did not speak of His own initiative.
He spoke only what Father abiding in Him spoke.
The Word of Jesus was the Work of Father.

We experience the same today.
The Spirit abides in every true Believer.
We speak not…we live not…of our own initiative.
We live, breath, speak the Word of the Spirit.
Or at least we should.

Seek today to manifest the Works of God through the Spirit in your life.
Reject the flesh…the enemy of the Spirit.

“It Is Enough…”

February 11, 2017

“It Is Enough…”

Blessings folk!

The Lord told His disciples this…

John 14:6-7
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life;
no one comes to the Father but through Me.

“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also;
from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”

The disciples response?
Phillip spoke up…

John 14:8
Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”

Philip says “show us the Father”.
Jesus had already said “if you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”

The disciples were grasping to understand what was being said.

What was hindering them?

Undoubtedly the profundity of what was happening, but, also something else.

I think Philip’s statement gives us some insight.
“It is enough for us”.

Enough for us?

What did he mean by this?

At least some, if not all, of the disciples were looking for something the Lord was not giving at the moment.

They were looking for an earthly kingdom.
They were looking for power.
They were looking for victory over the religious and political structures of the day.
They were looking…well…you get the idea.

Philip felt they would be satisfied “enough” if they saw Father.

Humorous if not so serious and fatal.

What satisfies you?
Who satisfies?
Anything other than the Most High God will fail.
Selah!

“Know Me/Know Him”

“Know Me/Know Him”

Blessings folk!

Jesus is…
The Way
The Truth
The Life.

There is no other way to Father but through Jesus.

Anything else is a false gospel. (Read Galatians. Winking )

We continue…

John 14:6-7

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life;
no one comes to the Father but through Me.

“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also;
from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”

This is a profound declaration.
Jesus is stating if one has known Him, then one has known Father.
Father/Son…One.

This is to such a degree that Jesus says that “from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”

Seeing/knowing Jesus is seeing/knowing Father.

Did the disciples completely understand?
I suspect not.

Were they confused?
Likely.

But, they would remember.
They would be filled with the Holy Spirit.
They would do as Father…Son…and Spirit instructed.

So should we.

"The Way"

February 9, 2017

“The Way”

Blessings folk!

The eleven disciples of Jesus were confused.

He had told them He was leaving.
He had told them they knew where He was going.

Thomas responded…

John 14:5
Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?”

Thomas flatly declared that they did not know where He was going.
That is interesting…

Was Jesus not speaking the truth in telling them they new the way He was going?
(of course not)

Did the disciples not really know?
(they did)

Was Thomas lying/obfuscating?
(no)

The disciples simply had not “put it all together” yet as to all that Jesus had said.
They would soon.
Jesus has stated such.

Thomas wanted to know how they would now “the way”?
Thomas is speaking of the way that Jesus would go.
They were thinking physical, geographical location.
Watch Jesus’ response…

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life;
no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

Whoa!
A very familiar passage that has even more understanding now that we see the context in which it was expressed.

Jesus states that He is the way.
“The way” to where?
To Father.

How do we know?
Because Jesus says so…”No one comes to the Father”.
So the journey is to Father.

Jesus was returning to Father.
The disciples could not go at that moment…though they would later.
Jesus was not speaking of a trip on this earth.
Jesus revealed the life-changing Truth that He is…

  • The Way
  • The Truth
  • The Life

Jesus is the Way to Father.
There is no other Way.

Are you in/on The Way?

"You Know Where I Am Going"

February 8, 2017

“You Know Where I Am Going”

Blessings folk!

“Let not your heart be troubled”
Jesus said it.
We have a role…a responsibility…the ability to be not troubled.
Of course we can not do so in the flesh.
We do so by the Lord in the Spirit!

“Believe in God…believe in Me”
Jesus said it.
Most would readily profess to do so.
But, do we really?
Do our deeds reflect a true believing in God?
Do not answer too quickly.
Reflect.
Seek the Lord.
What does He say?

The Lord continued…

John 14:2-4

“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places;
if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.

“If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself,
that where I am, there you may be also.

“And you know the way where I am going.”

Think.
Father’s house has many dwelling places.
We know a little bit.
It is enough to know that we have a home with Father.

Jesus was going to prepare a place for the disciples.
He also prepares for us…Believers.

Jesus said it.
It is true.

He went to prepare.
He will return to receive us to Himself.
We will be with HIm…where He has gone.
(This does not meant that we will be with Him everywhere He goes. It means that where He is now…with Father…we will be.)

They knew where He was going.
Jesus had been telling them.

Yet, did they listen?
Do we listen?
Do we know?
Do you know where you are going?

"Believe God"

February 7, 2017

“Believe God”

Blessings folk!

Jesus continues to speak.
He knew that His Words were causing discomfort, confusion, etc.
He had just Peter that he would deny Him.

Continue…

John 14:1

“Do not let your heart be troubled;
believe in God, believe also in Me.

The Lord tells them to “let not your heart be troubled”.
We see we have the ability to decide.
Will our heart be troubled?
Will our heart be at peace?
The Lord provides the way of peace.
We choose.

Choose what?
Whether to believe God or not.
That is the basis of faith.
Faith = Believing God.

Believe God.
Believe Jesus.

We will thereby have hearts that are not troubled.

If our pattern and practice of behavior is a heart of trouble and fear, then we are believing in situation and circumstance and not in God.

A form of idolatry.

Today:

  • be not troubled.
  • be at peace
  • believe God
  • believe Jesus
  • trust in Him

Watch what He does.

"Three Times"

February 6, 2017

“Three Times”

Blessings folk!

The disciples were listening to the Lord.
Can you imagine what was going through each mind?
It would be different from person to person, yet, there would be a common feeling of confusion, concern and wonder as to what the Lord meant in all that he said.

Of course, Peter speaks up. Happy

John 13:36-38
Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?”
Jesus answered, “Where I go, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later.”

Peter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You right now?
I will lay down my life for You.”

Jesus *answered, “Will you lay down your life for Me?
Truly, truly, I say to you, a rooster will not crow until you deny Me three times.

Peter boldly asked “Lord, where are You going?”
Many times in the accounts we have of conversation between Peter and Jesus, Peter begins with “Lord…”.
This is good.
But often Peter’s “Lord” was followed by something that would not be said to “Lord”.
Here, Peter was pushing the question…”where are you going?
Jesus gave more information.
He was going. They/Peter could not follow Him then.
But, they/Peter would later…probably more focused on Peter.

Peter demanded…hummm…should we demand of “Lord”?…to know why he could not follow then?
Peter then doubles down.
He declared that he would lay down His life for Jesus.

Why this?
I suspect that Peter meant it.
I also suspect that he knew not what he was saying.

Jesus then cuts through the bull and bluster.
“Really?” Jesus says…
A rooster would not crow until Peter denied Him three times.

Again, imagine the impact of that statement upon the room.
This was serious.
This was not going the way the disciples had “planned’…thought…

What did the Lord mean?

The Word: Episode 0001, Galatians 1:1-2

"By This..."

February 5, 2017

“By This…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus continues.
He had told His disciples that He was leaving.
He told them that they could not follow Him.

Then…

John 13:34-35

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

We have covered this many times in the past.
We do well to remember.

Jesus gave them/us a new commandment.
New related to what?
New when compared to the Law.

What is the new?

Love one another.
Love one another as the Lord has loved them/us.

Then the profound.

The world will know that we are His disciples by our love for one another.
Not by our religion.
Not by our programs.
Not by our processes.
Not by our procedure.
Not by buildings.
Not by gathering.
Not even by our love for the Lord Himself.

By our love for one another.

Consider this today.

What does the world see related to our love for one another?

I suspect it is not what the Lord desires…

"Conceal A Matter"

February 4, 2017

“Conceal A Matter”

Blessings folk!

“This makes my head hurt…”

So stated one reader.

I understand.

Remember this…

Pro 25:2
It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.

God will conceal a matter, to His glory.
It is the glory of kings to search out a matter.

God gives us much information in His Word.
It is the glory of the believer to search out the Truths of the Lord.

As to the matter at hand…the timing of events of “holy week”…does it matter?

It matters from the perspective that we are told to rightly and accurately handle the Word…

2Ti 2:15
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

It is important to know the Truth.
It is important to teach the Truth.
It is important to apply the Truth.

Yet, we do not allow ignorance of matters to harm the unity of the Body.

Remember…

Eph 4:3
…being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

The True Body is unified in the Spirit, by definition.
We do not have to seek unity.
We do not have to attain unity.
We are unified.
We are told to walk in a manner to preserve the unity.

Therefore, though I know that Jesus died on Wednesday afternoon (our calendar), I will still participate in “good Friday” gatherings, etc.

We are simply remembering what the Lord did.

Would we do well to adjust our traditions?
Yes.

Should we argue over it?
Absolutely not.

We would do well to celebrate and rejoice as the Lord directs in His Word.
A new Covenant interpretation of the Feasts of the Lord would be interesting…

"Nisan 14, 15"

February 3, 2017

“Nisan 14, 15”

Blessings folk!

Some follow-up from a couple of days ago…related to the timing of events during the last days and hours or the Lord’s corporeal existence upon earth.

Had a reader write…

…but my readings this morning are even a clearer statement that the "final Supper " was not a Passover meal (I believe that's what you're showing.) John 18:28 happens the day after the final supper, yet.....

John 18:28
Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.

If the Passover meal was the night before…why are the Jewish leaders trying to avoid uncleanness for something they supposedly did the night before? Also, it says they " wanted to be able to eat," a reference to an upcoming meal…

Precisely!
Also, how can Jesus eat the Passover meal if He is the Passover Lamb?

A couple of things.
John 18:28 was not the day after the final supper.
It was the same day.
Remember, the Hebrew/Jewish day begins at sundown.
So, Jesus had the meal in view at the beginning of the day, evening of Nisan 14.
He would die later the same day at 3 p.m.
All the things we see with his arrest, etc. happens on that day.
And there was evening and morning…a day.
(Also, we have both Hebrew timing…day… and Roman timing…hours…in these accounts.)

The preparation and eating of Passover required cleanness.
The Passover meal was prepared on Nisan 14…with the lamb (Lamb!) being killed “between the evenings”…3 p.m.

Lev 23:5
in the first month, on the fourteenth of the month,
between the evenings, is the passover to Jehovah;

Nisan 14 was called “the day of preparation”.

John 19:14
Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour.
And he *said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!”

John 19:31
Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

On the day of preparation they prepared the Passover meal.
Again, the meal was eaten at sundown, the beginning of Nisan 15.
Nisan 15 was a “high day”, a “sabbath”.
Not the weekly sabbath.

Lev 23:6-7
‘Then on the fifteenth day of the same month there is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the LORD; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread.

‘On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall not do any laborious work.

So how did we get so much so wrong in the timing?
Traditions of man based upon ignorance of the Lord’s Word.

What else might fall into this category?
Are we wrong to “celebrate” the varied things associated with “holy week”?
…to be continued… Happy

"Glorified"

February 2, 2017

“Glorified”

Blessings folk!

Judas left.
The Lord had told Judas/Satan to do it quickly.

Now, the Lord speaks in a most intimate manner with those remaining.
These Words were for those who believe.
These Words were for those who would carry the message forth.
These Words were for those who would face unimaginable things in the near future.
These Words were for those who would move in the Spirit…just as the Lord had done.
These Words are for us…

John 13:31-33

Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus *said,
“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him;

if God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately.

“Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’

The time had come.
Jesus was telling them so.
He was to be glorified.
God would be glorified in Him.
He in Him and Him in He.
Yeah, I know…mystery-land.

You can nearly conjecture that Jesus was talking somewhat to Himself as He spoke to them.

He then states that He was only there a little longer.
He did so with parental compassion - “little children”.

He tells them what will happen.
They will seek for Him, but He would not be found where they were seeking.

They could not go where He was going…at that time.

Little did they know!

How blessed are we that we do know!

We know what happened afterward.

Such should encourage and exhort us to lives of power in the Spirit.

"Supposing..."

February 1, 2017

“Supposing…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus was speaking with His disciples.
It was the last meal that He would have with them.
He said something profound to Judas…and to Satan who had just entered him.

Read on…

John 13:27-30

After the morsel, Satan then entered into him.
Therefore Jesus *said to him, “What you do, do quickly.”

Now no one of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose He had said this to him.

For some were supposing, because Judas had the money box,
that Jesus was saying to him,“Buy the things we have need of for the feast”;
or else, that he should give something to the poor.

So after receiving the morsel he went out immediately; and it was night.

Jesus tells Judas/Satan to do what he was to do quickly.
Interesting.
Was this Jesus giving Satan permission?
I suspect so.

The disciples knew not the meaning of the conversation.

There is a major hint about something here.
Something that folk usually do not consider nor reflect upon.
It is just a logistical thing, but I think important.

They thought that since Judas had the money box, that Jesus was sending Judas out to “buy the things we have need of for the feast.”
Or perhaps to gives something to the poor.

What feast?

Passover is the feast referenced.
It required preparation and execution.

But wait.

Were not Jesus and the disciples having the Passover meal at this moment?
That is what most say…teach…preach…think.

But that is not the truth.

This all goes to the timing of events in the last week of Jesus life.

Jesus was the Passover lamb.
He was killed at the time of the sacrifice of the Passover lamb…Nisan 14.
The meal in view in this passage was before the Passover meal. (Which was eaten at the beginning to the feast of Unleavened Bread…Nisan 15)

Here is the short of it…
Jesus died at 3 p.m. on what we call Wednesday…Nisan 14.
He was buried before sundown…when Thursday would begin.
This day, Thursday, was Nisan 15, the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread - a holy convocation, a sabbath…as per Leviticus 23.
Evening/Morning - Thursday. Day 1. (Remember the Hebrew days begins a sunset)
Evening/Morning - Friday. Day 2.
Evening/Morning - Saturday. Day 3.

Jesus said this…

Mat 12:40
for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Three days.
Three nights.
Complete.
Not portions thereof.

At some point after sundown and the beginning of Sunday, Jesus was resurrected.
Hallelujah!

Is this important?
I think so.
If we can not be trusted to rightly and accurately handle the Word of Truth in smaller matters, then why should be we trusted with more substantive matters?

The world will ask this.

Know the truth.
Proclaim the truth.
Live the truth.
