“Listen To This!”

June 30, 2017

“Listen To This!”

Blessings folk!

Jesus taught.
Jesus taught the Kingdom of God.
Jesus often taught using parables.
Here we have a foundational parable that teaches us how Jesus communicated.
We would do well to learn the Truths He spoke.
We would do well to learn His methods/style/etc.

For today, due to the length of the passage, give attention to… What is the parable about?
Is it “The Parable of the Seed?”
Is it “The Parable of the Sower?”
Is it “The Parable of the Soil?”
What is Jesus’ final admonition?

Mar 4:1-9

He began to teach again by the sea. And such a very large crowd gathered to Him that He got into a boat in the sea and sat down; and the whole crowd was by the sea on the land.

And He was teaching them many things in parables, and was saying to them in His teaching,

“Listen to this! Behold, the sower went out to sow;

as he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up.

“Other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil;
and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil.

“And after the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

“Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it,
and it yielded no crop.

“Other seeds fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased,
they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.”

And He was saying, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

“He Began to Teach…”

June 29, 2017

“He Began to Teach…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus taught.
He taught the Kingdom of God.

Not the strategies of man.
Not the mindset of man.
Not the experience of man.

The Kingdom of God.

People flocked to hear him.
Note how Jesus used a natural amphitheater. Happy

Mar 4:1

He began to teach again by the sea. And such a very large crowd gathered to Him that He got into a boat in the sea and sat down; and the whole crowd was by the sea on the land.

Such would be so today…if the Kingdom was preached.

We must preach the Word of God.
Anything else…regardless of how “good”, etc. will fail.

For the most part…in the western church…the Word of God is not preached.
That is a sad, pitiful, frightening reality.

Encourage.
Exhort.
Command.
Teach.
…one another to speak forth the Word of the Kingdom of God.

Then, watch what He does…

“Mother & Brothers”

“Mother & Brothers”

Blessings folk!

The scribes accused Jesus of having an unclean spirit.
Jesus called the accusation blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Jesus’ “own people” thought He had “lost His senses.”

Now, watch what happens next…

Mar 3:31-35

Then His mother and His brothers arrived,
and standing outside they sent word to Him and called Him.

A crowd was sitting around Him, and they said to Him,
“Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are outside looking for You.”

Answering them, He said, “Who are My mother and My brothers?”

Looking about at those who were sitting around Him,
He said, “Behold My mother and My brothers!

“For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother.”

Jesus’ mom and brothers arrived.
They sought to speak with Jesus.
Were they wanting to get Him away?
Perhaps.
At least the brothers would want to “get Jesus under control”.
They did not believe.
Mother did believe.
She knew.

The crowd told Jesus that His family was looking for Him.
Jesus’ response?
Who are My mother and My brothers?

He was not disrespecting His mother/brothers?
He was presenting a larger point.
He was revealing a portion of His purpose.

All who do the will of God, they are Jesus’ brother, sister, and mother.
Those who do the will of God are the family of God.
Are you of the family of God?

“Eternal Sin”

June 27, 2017

“Eternal Sin”

Blessings folk!

Jesus had confronted the scribes about their accusation.
They stated that Jesus’ power came from Beelzebul, ruler of demons.

Jesus spoke to them about kingdoms divided.
They would fall.

Jesus then told them about the strongman…

Mar 3:27
“But no one can enter the strong man’s house and plunder his property unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house.

This context is important, especially in light of what Jesus says next.
A passage that is oft discussed…
A passage that is oft interpreted/applied incorrectly because people do not learn the context…
A passage that is sobering…

Mar 3:28-30

“Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men,
and whatever blasphemies they utter;

but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness,
but is guilty of an eternal sin”—

because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Ah, the ole “Unpardonable Sin”…
Has caused great confusion within the Body…

What is “eternal sin”?

The last verse gives the answer.

They were attributing the good works of the Spirit through Jesus to an unclean spirit/demon.
They were saying that satan was doing what was a work of God.

They blasphemed the Holy Spirit.

Often people will think they have committed such a sin and state that the are not able to be saved.

I do not believe such to be true.

If one is convicted…
If one desires to confess and repent unto salvation…
Then, that is a move of the Holy Spirit.
One can not determine of one’s own flesh and volition “to be saved”.
It is a work of the Holy Spirit.

If one blasphemes against the Holy Spirit…resist, rejects…then that one will never be saved.
Thereby, dying in their eternal sin.

The truth is in the context of the scribes accusing Jesus of demonic possession.

Attribute not to satan that which the Lord is doing.

“Bind the Strong Man”

Blessings folk!

The scribes had accused Jesus of performing “miracles” by demonic power - Beelzebul.

Mar 3:22
The scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.”

Jesus’ response?

How can satan cast out satan?

Mar 3:23
And He called them to Himself and began speaking to them in parables,
“How can Satan cast out Satan?

Jesus spoke to them in parables explaining…

A kingdom divided against itself can not stand.
A house divided against itself can not stand.

Then, Jesus says this…

Mar 3:27
“But no one can enter the strong man’s house and plunder his property unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house.

Jesus was giving some insight into the battle we face.
He was showings how to do some things

We are victorious in/through the Lord Jesus.
But, we must know that the enemy is powerful and seeks to kill/steal/destroy.

We must rest in the Lord.
Not in our ability
Not in our strategies.
Not in the strength of the flesh.
In the Lord and His power.

He has bound the “strong man” satan.

Believe!

“House/Kingdom Divided Against Itself”

Jesus’ own people…humm, wonder who that was…
Those following Him?
Likely.
Family?
Probably not due to what we see later in the chapter…
Anyway, they thought Jesus had lost His senses.

Mar 3:22-26
The scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying,
“He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.”

And He called them to Himself and began speaking to them in parables,
“How can Satan cast out Satan?

“If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

“If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.

“If Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but he is finished!

Jesus knew what the scribes were saying.
He confronted them…with a parable.
“How can Satan cast out Satan?”

If satan’s house is divided, it will not stand.

Jesus teaches some about “division”.

A kingdom divided against itself…a description of much to the professing Body of Christ…will not stand.
Such a kingdom will fail.

Allow not division within the house.
Allow not division within the kingdom.

“He Has Lost His Senses”

June 24, 2017

“He Has Lost His Senses”

Blessings folk!

You can know this.
When one begins to walk in the Spirit and Power of the Most High, then there will be conflict.

Family will think one is “crazy”.
Religionists and the like will say one is possessed.

Don’t think so?

Look at what happened to Jesus.

Mar 3:20-21

And He came home, and the crowd gathered again,
to such an extent that they could not even eat a meal.

When His own people heard of this, they went out to take custody of Him;
for they were saying, “He has lost His senses.”

The crowd pressed in to such a degree that the normal activity of a meal was not possible.
Jesus “own people” heard about this and decided to “take custody of Him.”
Well, that is interesting.

His “own people” thought He had lost His senses.
We will see more about this later in the passage.

But then, the Religionists seized the moment…

Mar 3:22
The scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying,
“He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.”

The scribes, who the people would have listen to for an explanation to His “lost senses”, double-down.
Their diagnosis?
DEMONS!

Jesus must be possessed by Beelzebul…the ruler of the demons.
Why this explanation?
Because demons left when Jesus told them to…the scribes could not deny that.
In the scribal reasoning, then Jesus must be the ruler of the demons - Beelzebul.
That would be the reason the demons listened and obeyed.

The scribes were wrong.

Religionists are wrong today for the same reason.

Many are the excuses and explanations to seek to deny with what God is doing.

Believe them not.

Believe the Lord.
Believe His Word.

Beware!
Do not attribute to satan that which is the hand of the Lord.

“Called, Chosen…Authority”

Blessings folk!

Jesus went to a mountain.

Luke tells us why…

Luk 6:12-13

It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray,
and He spent the whole night in prayer to God.

And when day came, He called His disciples to Him and chose twelve of them,
whom He also named as apostles:

Jesus spent the entire night in prayer.
Why?
The next day He chose the twelve that would be closest to Him…

Mar 3:13-19

And He went up on the mountain and summoned those whom He Himself wanted,
and they came to Him.

And He appointed twelve,
so that they would be with Him and that He could send them out to preach,

and to have authority to cast out the demons.

And He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom He gave the name Peter),

and James, the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James
(to them He gave the name Boanerges, which means, “Sons of Thunder&rdquoWinking;

and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot;

and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Him.

Notice, Jesus…

  • called them
  • chose them
  • named them
  • would be with them
  • sent them out to preach
  • gave them authority to cast out demons
  • appointed them
He has done the same for those that are true believers.

You are…
  • called
  • chosen
  • named
  • appointed
  • sent
  • filled with His authority
  • never abandoned

Oh, by the way…all before the foundations of the earth…

Live therefore in His power and might…

“Affliction, Unclean Spirits: Healed!”

June 22, 2017

“Affliction, Unclean Spirits: Healed!”

Blessings folk!

We have seen that Jesus withdrew to the sea.

Watch what happens…

Mar 3:7-12

Jesus withdrew to the sea with His disciples;
and a great multitude from Galilee followed; and also from Judea,

and from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and beyond the Jordan, and the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon, a great number of people heard of all that He was doing and came to Him.

And He told His disciples that a boat should stand ready for Him because of the crowd,
so that they would not crowd Him;

for He had healed many,
with the result that all those who had afflictions pressed around Him in order to touch Him.

Whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, they would fall down before Him and shout,
“You are the Son of God!”

And He earnestly warned them not to tell who He was.

Jesus told His disciples to have a boat ready.
Not to leave, but so that He could speak without being crowded.
More folk could hear Him when He was a bit offshore.

Why were they crowding in?
Why were they following Him…seeking Him?

Because He had healed many.
Because He had set many free of unclean spirits.

The word spread.

Those with afflictions/unclean spirits sought Him and pressed in to Him.
They wanted to be clean.
They wanted to be free.

The same is true today.
Yet, we often ignore such.
Our deeds reflect more faith in man and his abilities than in the Lord.

We do not press in.

One last thought.

Did you see how the unclean spirits reacted?
They fell before Jesus.
They shouted.
They knew and declared that He was the Son of God.

How did they know?
Because they were with Him before the Father…before they joined with Lucifer in rebellion.

Jesus warned them to not tell Who He was.

Why?

It was not time for Him to be revealed in that manner.
Father would reveal in His time.
The Lord did not need the affirmation of demons.

Folks, if we as true believers abide in the Lord and obey Him, He will set the captive free.
He will heal the afflicted.

Do you believe?
Live in belief…faith.

and from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and beyond the Jordan, and the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon, a great number of people heard of all that He was doing and came to Him.

Jesus, with His disciples, withdrew to the sea.

A great multitude followed Him.

Note from whence they came.
They came from city.
They came from country.
They came from near.
They came from far.

A great number.

Why did they come?

Because they heard of all that Jesus was doing.
His teaching.
His healing.
His miracles.

They heard.
They came.

The same is true today.
People will come to have a true encounter with the True Lord.

They will not come to the continued man-made soulish attempts of man to make the Kingdom “attractive”.

We as HIs disciples should live as He did.
Then, the great number of people will be drawn to Him.

“Have You Never Read…”

Blessings folk!

How did Jesus respond when someone confronted Him?

Read the passage.

Watch what Jesus does…

Mar 2:23-28

And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath,
and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the heads of grain.

The Pharisees were saying to Him,
“Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”

And He said to them,“Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry;

how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?”

Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

“So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

Jesus’ response?
“Have you never read…”

Jesus speaks from the Scripture…in this case He recounts an event from 1 Samuel 21.

This would have been a “grenade of truth” to the worldview of the Pharisees.
In their eyes Jesus was justifying sin.
But, He was not.

Jesus continued.
He clarified the “confusion” over the Sabbath.

The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

The Lord gave the Sabbath to man.
It was for his benefit.

Jesus then declares an earth-shattering truth.
The Son of Man - Him - is Lord even of the Sabbath.

Do Believers keep the Sabbath today?
No, not in the traditional sense.
Yes, in a far greater way.

As to the keeping of a day…

Rom 14:5

One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike.
Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind.

We as Believers are not required to keep the day of the Sabbath under the Law.

But!

We do keep the Sabbath!
Jesus is our Sabbath rest.
If you are in Him, you are resting in the Sabbath…

Heb 4:9-10

So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works,
as God did from His.

Rest in the Lord.

Jesus has an encounter with the Pharisees over the Sabbath, the first of many.

Note what day it is?
What was the action?
Who was involved?
What were they doing?

Mar 2:23-28

And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath,

The Pharisees were saying to Him,

Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

“So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

It was the Sabbath.

The day of which the Lord has said…

Exo 20:8

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Man had taken that commandment and added a plethora of rules and regulations attempting to define the “keeping of the Sabbath”.

One such rule related to “work” on the Sabbath.

Jesus’ disciples were hungry.
They were picking a field for a snack.

The Pharisees saw it.
Interesting.
All through the gospels we see the Pharisees lurking about, usually seeking to entrap Jesus.
Do not be surprised that they do the same to you.

How did Jesus respond? You saw.
We will look at it tomorrow.

For today, know that the modern Pharisee, the Religionists, will seek to entrap us with the freedom and liberty that we have in the Lord.

Let us learn from the Lord as to how to handle them.

June 17, 2017

“Godhead: From Before the Beginning”

Blessings folk!

One more look at “Godhead”.

The nature of the Godhead - Father, Son, Spirit as One - is a covenantal mystery that permeates creation itself.

We see Godhead from the beginning of creation.
The Great I AM is from before the foundations of the world.

Gen 1:1-2

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep,
and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.

God created - in the beginning.
We see God.
We see the Spirit.

Jhn 1:1-4

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He was in the beginning with God.

All things came into being through Him,
and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

Jesus is the Word.
Jesus is with God.
Jesus is God.

All things came into being through Him, through Jesus.

Jesus spoke creation into existence.

Son…Word.
Spirit.

The Godhead created.

“Godhead: Fulness in Bodily Form”

Blessings folk!

Another verse about “Godhead”.

Col 2:9
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

“Him” is Jesus.

In Jesus dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

A profound truth.

Jesus in bodily form had all the fulness of the Godhead - Father, Son, Spirit.

Do I understand all the truth related to such?
Not yet. Happy
It is the truth none the less.

Read a little of the context.

Col 2:6-9

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith,
as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit,
after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

True Believers have received Christ.

We are to…

  • walk in Him
  • be rooted and built up in Him
  • established in the faith in Him
  • abound in the Lord in thanksgiving

We are to beware…
  • lest someone spoil us through…
    • philosophy
    • vain deceit
    • traditions of man
    • rudiments of the world.
Read the NASB translation…

Col 2:8

See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception,
according to the tradition of men,
according to the elementary principles of the world,
rather than according to Christ.

We are to dwell in the rudiments of Christ.
Not man.

Why?

Because in Christ dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

AHHHH!

Happy

Be not captive to the philosophy, empty deception, traditions and elementary principles of man and the world.

Walk in Christ.
Rooted.

Established in the faith.

“Godhead: Internal/External Testimony”

Blessings folk!

We are looking at “Godhead”.

Be not ashamed of the gospel.
Live by faith.

Read the passage again.
Repetition is at the heart of learning.

Rom 1:16-20

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written,
The just shall live by faith.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them;
for God hath shewed it unto them.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead;
so that they are without excuse:

The wrath of God!
In the midst of a passage about the gospel and faith we see the wrath of God!

Why?

Because, God’s wrath is revealed from heaven.
God’s wrath is…

  • against all ungodliness
  • against all unrighteousness of man
  • against all who hold the truth in unrighteousness…interesting phrase
    • Do they know the truth and yet walk in unrighteousness? The following verses reveal this to be true.

The last two verses contain one of the most profound truth in all of the Word.
Think on these today.
We will discuss more later.

  1. What may be known about God is manifest within in them…the unrighteous.

How?
God showed it to them.

There is an testimony of God inside every human.
They know God is real.
They know He exist.
An internal testimony.

(2) The invisible things of God are seen and understood by the things of creation.
Creation testifies to the eternal power and Godhead (there we go!) of God.
An external testimony.

Again,
An internal testimony of God within every human.
An external testimony of God to every human via creation and what is seen.

The conclusion?
All are without excuse.

Selah!

Rom 1:16-20

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

so that they are without excuse:

How is the righteousness of God revealed?
From faith.
To faith.
The faith that we have…
The faith that saves us…
The faith wherein we live and breath and have our very being…
This faith comes from the Most High.
From faith to faith.
We manifest the faith by believing.
Believing what God says.

As it is written, “the just shall live by faith.” (Hab. 2:4)

It is by faith that we are saved and renewed.
It is by faith that we believe.
It is by faith that we understand.

Anything other than faith is sin.

Therefore, live by faith…

Rom 5:1-2
Therefore, having been justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.

By faith: justified.
By faith: peace…with God..through our Lord Jesus Christ
By faith: grace in which we stand.

so that they are without excuse:

So much here…

A few things for today.

Paul was not ashamed of the gospel…the good news of Christ.
Why?
Because the gospel is the power of God unto salvation.
Think on that.
The Good News of Jesus is the power of God!
This power bring salvation.

To who?
To every one that believes.
Jew first.
Then, Gentiles.

We too often take these truths for granted.
A spirit of familiarity robs us of the profound truth.

Think on the Good News today.
Think on the power of God.
Be not ashamed.

“Godhead - Athens…a City of Idols”

June 12, 2017

“Godhead - Athens…a City of Idols”

Blessings folk!

Let us take some time to look at some of the passages that give insight into the triune nature of God.

Remember these…

Act 17:29
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

Rom 1:20
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead;
so that they are without excuse:

Col 2:9
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

1Jo 5:6-7
6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:
and these three are one.

“Godhead” is the term that describes the triune God.
The word is deleted from modern translations…to our loss…though one will see “Divine Nature”.

Focusing today on the Acts passage…

Paul is speaking to a group of unbelievers in Athens.
They were the wise, the “knowledgeable”, the “important”.
Look at some of the context…

Act 17:16-18

Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens,
his spirit was being provoked within him as he was observing the city full of idols.

So he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles,
and in the market place every day with those who happened to be present.

And also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were conversing with him. Some were saying, “What would this idle babbler wish to say?” Others, “He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,”—because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.

Paul was awaiting his entourage.
He observed that the city of Athens was full of idols, as are our cities.

We are unaware of the idols that we have.
We consider them to be “normal”, yet they are idols.
Anything that usurps from the Most High is an idol.

So, Paul was reasoning in the synagogue.
The Jews heard.
The God-fearing Gentiles heard.

He also reasoned in the market place.
All in the market heard.

Paul also conversed with the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers.
They thought Paul a foolish babbler.
They thought he was proclaimer of strange deities.

Why?

Because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.

Know that if we speak the Truth, the world will think us strange.

It is the Epicurean/Stoic philosophers that invited Paul to speak to a gathering on the Areopagus. They thought he would be entertaining.

He seized the moment…as we will see…

Do we?
Do we take every moment to the authority of the Lord Jesus?
In the market?
In the gather place?
Everywhere…

“Triune…”

June 11, 2017

“Triune…”

Blessings folk!

A little sidebar today.

Many portions of the Body of Christ remember today as “Trinity Sunday”.

It is true, the word “trinity” is not found in the Bible.
But the triune nature of God is found.
It is more than an inference.

As fact, there is a great word that describes it…though the word has been excised from modern translations…I suspect intentionally. (That is the reason that I use multiple translations when studying.)

The word?
Godhead.
It is found in the Authorized version…the King James.

Note what is said…

Act 17:29
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

Rom 1:20
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead;
so that they are without excuse:

Col 2:9
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

We will spend some time over the next few days looking at these.

For now, know that the true nature of God is under attack by the enemy.
The enemy seeks to pervert and hide Who God is.

Now, read carefully the following passage.
Three English translations are provided.
What do you see?

1Jo 5:6-8
6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:
and these three are one.

8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
KJV

1Jo 5:6-8
6 This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

7 For there are three that testify:

8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.
NASB

1Jo 5:6-8
Jesus Christ
He is the One who came by water and blood, not by water only, but by water and by blood. And the Spirit is the One who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

7 For there are three that testify:

the Spirit, the water, and the blood
and these three are in agreement.

Note verse 7.

The modern versions delete this verse.
There are reasons.
They are not good reasons.
There are reasons to question the motivation (has to do with a couple of guys from the 19th-century…Wescott and Hort&hellipWinking

“THE” verse that is the clearest about the triune nature of God is basically deleted…hummmm….remember!

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:
and these three are one.

“Old/New”

June 10, 2017

“Old/New”

Blessings folk!

People rarely understand liberty and freedom in the Lord.

The Religionists never will - too much power to be had.

Jesus was showing that life in the Kingdom was a bit different than life in religion.

We have seen where He said that a time for fasting would come, but not when the Bridegroom was present.

Now, give close attention to the garment/wine skins…

Mar 2:18-22

John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and they came and said to Him,
“Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”

And Jesus said to them, “While the bridegroom is with them, the attendants of the bridegroom cannot fast, can they? So long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.

“But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
and then they will fast in that day.

“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment;
otherwise the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear results.

“No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins as well; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins.”

Jesus is clear.

Old wineskins will not hold new wine - they will burst.
New garment material (unshrunk) can not be sown on an old garment - it will tear away.

The Kingdom can not be “poured in” nor “attached” to the old.

Something must happen.

Fresh wineskins are required.

Matthew gives additional insight.

Mat 9:16-17
“But no one puts a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment;
for the patch pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear results.

“Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins;
otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out and the wineskins are ruined;
but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”

With fresh wineskins both are preserved.

It is simple.

One must be born again to receive the new.

John 3:3
Jesus answered and said to him,
Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Are you?

"The Bridegroom..."

June 9, 2017

“The Bridegroom…”

Blessings folk!

Many of Jesus’ most profound teaching arose from inquiries made by others…questions.

Someone would ask a question.
Sometimes legitimate.
Sometimes a ploy to entrap Jesus.
Yet, He would answer, often giving far more information than a simple response.

Watch…

“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment;
otherwise the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear results.

“No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins as well; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins.”

The fact that the disciples of John and the Pharisees were concerned (irritated?) enough to ask the question is interesting.

Their hearts were being revealed.
The Pharisees fasting was but a religious ritual.
Perhaps John’s disciples were sincere…or getting “caught up” in the resentment.

Either way, they wanted to know why “Your disciples do not fast”.

Jesus’ answer?

Profound.
Destructive of the religious norm and standard of the day.
A subtle profession of Who He was/is.

As Jesus often (usually?) did, he answered via example.

The attendants of the bridegroom do not fast when the bridegroom is with them? No?

As fact, as long as the bridegroom is with them they cannot fast.

Jesus was declaring Himself to be the Bridegroom.

But, Bridegroom of what?

The balance of the Word reveals it to us, though the disciples at that moment did not know.

2 Co 11:2
For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself.
I promised you as a pure bride to one husband—Christ.

Rev 19:7
“Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.”

Rev 21:9-11

Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain,
and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,

having the glory of God. Her brilliance was like a very costly stone,
as a stone of crystal-clear jasper.

Well that is interesting.
Jerusalem, the bride.

The church, the bride.

If you believe, you are the Bride…

“Go…”

June 8, 2017

“Go…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus was in the world, but not of the world…
Believers are likewise…

John 17:14
I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them,
because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world
.

Jesus came to call sinners.
Jesus lived life with sinners, tax collectors and the like.
He did so without sin.

So should we.

Sinners will not come into the Kingdom by “being invited to church”.
What a misnomer.
They will come into the Kingdom by hearing the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, believing and repenting.
They then “become the church”.

We will not reach the sinners if we await them to come to us, if we await them to come to our determined place, events, etc.

We must go to the sinner.
This requires being where they are.

Jesus put it this way…

Mat 28:19-20
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

teaching them to observe all that I commanded you;
and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

The “go” carries the idea of “as you are going”.
As we are going we are to…

  • make disciples of all nations…all!
  • baptize them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit…fulness of the Godhead
  • teach them to observe the commandments of the Lord
  • remember that the Lord is with us from this age through all eternity

Yes, we will be hated by some.
Yes, many will believe and become the Body.
Go!
Proclaim the Truth.
Teach the Truth.
Take off the shackles of man-made religion.
Watch what the Lord does!

"But Sinners"

June 7, 2017

“But Sinners”

Blessings folk!

Jesus ate and drank with sinners and tax collectors.

Most Believers do not do so today.

Why were sinners and tax collectors drawn to Jesus?

Why are they not drawn to Him today?

Read…

Mar 2:15-17

And it happened that He was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners were dining with Jesus and His disciples;
for there were many of them, and they were following Him.

When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, “Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners?”

And hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician,
but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Jesus made it clear.
He came to call the sinners to righteousness.
He did not come to call the righteous…who are already righteous.

The religious rulers questioned His eating and drinking with sinners.
Notice how they asked Jesus’ disciples and not Jesus Himself.
They hoped to plant seeds of doubt and dissension.

The same happens today.

People today are not drawn to Jesus because they do not see Him.

They see people insisting on inviting to a “service”, a “gathering”, to “our church”, etc.

Rare is the person that lives as Jesus before the world and speaks/teaches the Kingdom.
Rare is the person that invites folk to Jesus…rather than to “our church”.
Rare is the person that manifest the Presence of the Lord…His glory, love, grace, mercy, etc… to the world.
Rare is the person that is in the life of sinner…we prefer to get the sinner on “our turf…in our safe place.”

The tax collectors and sinners experienced the power and presence of the Lord.
They knew that He “was real”.
The tax collectors and sinners had rejected the religious.
They knew they were frauds.

The religious rulers rejected the Lord.
They knew what He said was truth.
Yet, they could not set themselves aside to receive.

Things never change.

Be the Presence of the Lord in an ever darkening world.
Then, the world will be drawn to Him.
Not to us.
Not to our activities…though they may be good.
Drawn to the Lord.

“Eat’n and Drink’n With Sinners”

June 6, 2017

“Eat’n and Drink’n With Sinners”

Blessings folk!

We continue through Mark.

Watch what Jesus did.
Watch the reaction of the people.
Watch who Jesus was with…

Mar 2:13-16

And He went out again by the seashore;
and all the people were coming to Him, and He was teaching them.

As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting in the tax booth, and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.

And it happened that He was reclining at the table in his house,
and many tax collectors and sinners were dining with Jesus and His disciples;
for there were many of them, and they were following Him.

When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, “Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners?”

Jesus went by the seashore.
The people came to Him.
He taught them.

As He was going, He saw Levi the tax collector.
Jesus called him to follow.
Levi did.

Jesus is sitting at Levi’s house
Many tax collectors and sinners were dining with Jesus and His disciples.
Many.
Many followed Him.

What was the response of the religious leadership?
They questioned.
They wanted to know why Jesus would be eating and drinking with such folk.

Nothing is new.

In our local Bible study today we saw an example in the Word.
Jeremiah was saved from death by the people.
The political leadership and people did not believe that Jeremiah should die simply because he voiced the Word of the Lord.

The religious leadership thought otherwise.
They wanted him dead.

Jer 26:11
Then the priests and the prophets spoke to the officials and to all the people, saying,
“A death sentence for this man!
For he has prophesied against this city as you have heard in your hearing.”

Jer 26:16
Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets,
“No death sentence for this man! For he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.”

Follow the Lord as He leads us to sinners.
Speak forth the Truth.
Stand in the Truth.

“Get Up, Pick Up, Go Home”

Read the account again.
Repetition is the heart of learning…

Mar 2:3-12
And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men.

Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him;
and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying.

And Jesus seeing their faith said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,

“Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?”

Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, *said to them, “Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?

“Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven’;
or to say, ‘Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk’?

“But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—
He said to the paralytic,

“I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home.”

And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying,
“We have never seen anything like this.”

Jesus knew what the scribes were thinking.
He asked them why they were reasoning so?
Why the questioning about Him, blaspheming, forgiving of sins?

Then Jesus “doubles down” on the situation.

Which is easier?
Healing?
Forgiving of sins?

Jesus healed the man.

Why?

So that they may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.

The conversation to this point had been about what the scribes thought and about the situation with the paralytic…all while “ignoring” the paralytic.

Now Jesus speaks to him.
Get up!
Pick up your pallet!
Go home!

He did.
Immediately.
In the sight of everyone.

Can you imagine?

He had no strength, balance, etc. to this point.
Now he arises.
Now he works (pick up pallet).
Now he returns home.

The people were amazed.
They had never seen anything like this.
They glorified God.

So should we.
The Lord desires to move in like fashion through us…
if we only believe…
if we only obey.

One would think that all would celebrate.

Except…

And…
The Religionists are always ready to throw a conniption.

Read the account again.

Mar 2:3-12

They thought Jesus was blaspheming.
They were shocked at Jesus speaking this way.
They knew that only God can forgive sins.

Note Jesus’ response.

Mar 2:3-12

Look at just a couple of things today…

Four men brought a paralytic…presumably a friend/family member to Jesus.
The crowd was so dense…so unmoving…they could not get the paralytic to Jesus.
They went through an unorthodox, aggressive procedure.
They removed the roof.
They dug through the roof.
Yes, those inside would have known something was happening.

Now give close attention.
When Jesus noticed “their” faith - the faith of the men who brought the paralytic…
When Jesus noticed “their” faith, He looked at the paralytic and proclaimed “Son, your sins are forgiven”.

By whose faith?
Who was healed?

June 2, 2017

“He Was Speaking the Word To Them…”

Blessings folk!

We have seen that the word was spreading of Jesus…throughout the region.
People were speaking of what He was doing.
Jesus was…
Speaking the Word.
Casting out demons.
Healing the sick and diseased.

The people were speaking.
Those who had been set free were proclaiming.

Now watch.
Jesus returns home.
What does He do?

Mar 2:1-2

When He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward,
it was heard that He was at home.

And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them.

The people gathered.
So many that there was no more room inside nor near the door outside
They were pressing in.
Why?
To hear Him speaking.
To hear Him speaking the Word to them.

Such is the same today.

People are hungry for the Truth of the Word of the Lord.

Yet, it is so rare to find Truth.

Opinions of man are abundant.
“Cute” soliloquies of man are the norm.

But, the Word and Power are nearly non-existent.

And we wonder why the professing Body of Christ is as we see it?

The Lord speaks to/through us today via His Word (the Bible), His Spirit, His Creation, His Body.

May we have ears to hear.
May we have eyes to see.
May we receive the Truth.
May we speak forth the Truth.

“Say Nothing, Obey the Law”

June 1, 2017

“Say Nothing, Obey the Law”

Blessings folk!

The man with leprosy knew that Jesus could heal him if He was willing.
Jesus was willing.

The man was healed.
What happened next?

Read…

Mar 1:39-45
And He went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee,
preaching and casting out the demons.

And a leper came to Jesus, beseeching Him and falling on his knees before Him, and saying,
“If You are willing, You can make me clean.”

Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him,
“I am willing; be cleansed.”

Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.

And He sternly warned him and immediately sent him away,

and He said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

But he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the news around, to such an extent that Jesus could no longer publicly enter a city, but stayed out in unpopulated areas;
and they were coming to Him from everywhere.

Jesus sternly warned him and sent him away.
Why?

A couple of things.

Jesus told him not to say anything to anyone.
Interesting in that is would be abundantly obvious that a healing had occurred.
Why did Jesus want him to be quiet?
Perhaps because the Lord did not believe that “the time had come” for Him to proclaimed in this manner…or…

Jesus then told him to show himself to the priest and offer a sacrifice according to the Law.
This was to be done as a testimony to them…to the priest…to the Jews.
The Law has many provisions for determining purity of skin, etc.
He was to obey the Law.

So…
Be quiet.
Obey the Law.

What did the man do?
Went out.
Proclaimed freely.
Spread the news of what the Lord had done for him.
So much so, that Jesus could no longer enter a city publicly…perhaps this is why the Lord did not want him to say anything?

Jesus then stayed out in the country side and the folk came to him.

May we proclaim what the Lord has done for us.
