“Afraid To Ask...”

Blessings folk!

After the encounter with the father and boy, Jesus moves on with His disciples.

Read...

Mar 9:30-32
From there they went out and began to go through Galilee,
and He did not want anyone to know about it.

For He was teaching His disciples and telling them,
“The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him;
and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.”

But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.

They began to go through Galilee.
Jesus did not want anyone to know about their travel.
Why?
Apparently He wanted time with the disciples.
He was teaching them.
What?
Jesus taught the Kingdom of God.

He also was telling them what was to happen to Him.
The Son of Man - Jesus - would be delivered into the hands of man.
He would be killed by them.
He would rise (from the dead) three days later.

Hard to understand? Yes.
The disciples did not understand.
Was He speaking literally or figuratively?
Was He serious?

They feared to ask Him?
Wonder why?

Likely pride and hubris.
Such will keep us from a true relationship with the Lord.
Beware!

“Why?”

September 29, 2017

“Why?”

Blessings folk!

The Boy was healed.
He was delivered from demons by Jesus.

Can you imagine the joy and relief of parents, family and friends?
Can you imagine the amazement of the people?
Can you imagine how the disciples rejoiced and praised the Most High?
…or did they…

Mar 9:28-29
When He came into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately,
“Why could we not drive it out?”

And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.”

Jesus’ disciples…oh how like them we are!…questioned Jesus privately.

They were embarrassed.
They were perturbed.
They were frustrated.

They asked Jesus why they could not drive the unclean spirit out.

Jesus’ reply? This kind…tells us there are “kinds” of unclean spirits.
Cannot come out…unclean spirits can come out…some are more resistant.
By anything but prayer…no magical mantra, not “Jesus said this once, let’s see if it works”.
Only by prayer

Only by receiving the Word of the Lord at that moment.
Only be knowing and doing what the Lord says.

We receive through prayer.

It is not “if we pray hard enough we can convince God to do something”.
It is “what is Your mind Lord?”

Matthew enhances our understanding.

Mat 17:19-21

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not drive it out?”

And He said to them,
“Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move;
and nothing will be impossible to you.

[“But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”]

Ah…

Littleness of their faith.

That is the crux of the issue.

Lack of faith.
Smallness of faith.
More faith in fear than faith in God

Describes us, no?

I see it daily .

Fear of man.
Fear of failure.
Fear of revelation of who we really are…

We must have faith.
We must live faith.
If we do, nothing will be impossible.

As to this kind of unclean spirit - faith, prayer and fasting will set the captive free!

“Free and Raised Up”

September 28, 2017
“Free and Raised Up”
Blessings folk!
Jesus had been conversing with the father of the boy (see previous posts).
The father cried out “I believe...help my unbelief”.
Jesus began to realize that His time was short. How do we know?
Read...
Mar 9:22-27
And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”
When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again.”
After crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, “He is dead!”
But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up.
Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering. His time was short. He was not interested in a “show-n-tell” exhibition for the people. He was interested in setting the captive free.
Jesus then took action. He rebuked the unclean spirit. How? We are told. By saying to it “you deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again.”
Jesus defined exactly who the culprit was - deaf and mute spirit. Jesus commanded the spirit - did not request, did not ask, did not “pray about it”. Jesus told the spirit what to do...
page1image15776
- come out of him - do not enter him
The reaction of the spirit?
The spirit cried out - through the boy. The spirit threw the boy into terrible convulsions. But, then the spirit came out.
The boy was as if dead. The people thought so. Such was the degree of the convulsions. Such was the degree of the battle.
But, then Jesus! Jesus took the boy by the hand. Jesus raised the boy up.
The boy got up. Free! Delivered!
The Lord desires to do likewise, using true believers. Religionists will scoff and snicker behind our backs. But we know, there is power in the Lord to set the captive free!
Let us do so...

“I Do Believe...Help!”

September 27, 2017
“I Do Believe...Help!”
Blessings folk! Jesus has just told the distressed father that all things are possible to him who believes. What was the response of the father? Reread the account...again, repetition puts the Word deep within our Spirit... Give attention to the response of the father...
Mar 9:14-27
When they came back to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them.
Immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were amazed and began running up to greet Him.
And He asked them, “What are you discussing with them?”
And one of the crowd answered Him, “Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute;
and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth and stiffens out. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it.”
And He answered them and said, “O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!”
They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth.
And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.
“It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!”
And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.”

But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up.
The father declared “I do believe”. He truly believed. Yet, in this belief, he realized that unbelief existed.
He asked Jesus to help his unbelief. What a lesson for us!
We do believe! We know the truth! Yet, Lord, help us with the unbelief the lurks beneath the surface. Help us with unbelief that tempts us to trust in what we see rather than in You. Help us with unbelief that feigns as religiousness. Help us with unbelief that keeps our attention upon all things other than You.
Lord, I believe!

“Believe!”

September 26, 2017
“Believe!”
Blessings folk! We continue through the account (you can read it below...) A spirit, an unclean spirit...a demon...was thrashing the son of a man.
Jesus inquired of the Father as to how long this had been occurring. The father said since childhood. He stated that it often threw the child into fire or water. The demon was seeking to cause extensive bodily harm...perhaps even death.
Why did Jesus ask this question? We do not not know with certainty.
Would Jesus not have known the answer? Probably not. He was God. He was human.
Yet, He set aside some things while in the flesh.
Perhaps he wanted the testimony of the father before the crowd?
Regardless...
The father cried out with a statement of pure desperation...”if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!”
What a cry! What despair!
Jesus response? “If you can...?” Jesus was not offended at a personal slight. Jesus wanted all to realize that it is by faith!
All things.
“ ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.”
All things are possible. All things are possible to him who believes.
Do you believe? Really?
In all things, all things are possible, if we believe. Believe!!

“The Spirit Threw Him...”

September 25, 2017
“The Spirit Threw Him...”
Blessings folk! Jesus’ response to the account of what happens to the boy?
He chastises the crowd. How long will I be with you? How long shall I put up with you?
Then Jesus tells them to bring the boy to Him.
Was Jesus rude? No.
Was Jesus irritated? Not unto sin.
Why this reaction? He wanted them to see what the situation was. They lacked true faith, true belief.
Review...watch what happens to the boy.

When the boy saw Jesus, the spirit threw the boy into a convulsion. Interesting insight into the relationship between an unclean spirit and the physical being.
The demon was “putting on a show” at the expense of the boy. Convulsing. Falling. Rolling.
Foaming at the mouth.
A short show. Soon the Lord would quickly be victorious.
Remember, such is still existing today. We usually ignore. We usually do not believe.
But, true none the less...

But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up.
The scribes were arguing with the crowd, apparently over a man’s son.
The father knew what the issue was. His son was possessed by a demon.
Rare is the person that understands this today. Demonic action still exist...ever expanding.
Note the detail of what occurred to the son. The spirit made the boy mute. The spirit seizes the boy. The spirit physically slammed the boy to the ground. The spirit caused the boy to foam at the mouth.
The spirit caused the boy to grind his teeth. The spirit caused the boy to stiffen out.
In most of the western church today, believers will immediately start a litany of “medical explanations” for these actions.
The Word tells us it is a demon. ‘Nough said.
Perhaps what we call “medical explanations” are something else?

Wow. So much here.
A couple of things.
Notice that when Jesus returned, He found a crowd. He found a crowd in the midst of an argument. Some scribes were arguing with the crowd.
Imagine, religious rulers arguing with the people. Winking
What was the issue? We are not told directly, but, based upon Jesus’ question and subsequent answer, it likely has to do with the young boy and the disciples inability to set him free.
For today, such situations occur today. Most ignore. Most do not believe. We do so to our detriment.
Our battle is not against flesh and blood but against principalities in the heavenlies...
Meditate upon this passage. Seek the Lord. He desires to use us to set folk free...

“Elijah First?”

September 22, 2017
“Elijah First?”
Blessings folk!
The disciples were wondering what it meant to “rise from the dead”. So, they asked another question...on first glance unrelated...but...
Mar 9:9-11
As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead.
They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant.
They asked Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
So, the question is...if Jesus was to be raised from the dead...and if He is Messiah...then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?
They thought Elijah has not come, so how can Jesus be Messiah? How can He truly be raised from the dead?
Jesus continued...
Mar 9:12-13
And He said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?
“But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.”
Jesus confirmed the Biblical interpretation of the scribes. Elijah does first come and restore all things.
Jesus then states that Elijah has indeed come. They did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.
Matthew gives more insight...
Mat 11:14-15
“And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come.
page1image16336 page1image16496 page1image16656
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
The “John” referenced is John the Baptist. John the Baptist was Elijah...if we are willing to accept it... But, is that all? Is there more to “Elijah”? Did John the Baptist “restore all things”... ...more later...

“What Does It Mean...?”
Blessings folk! Peter, James and John had just seen the Lord transfigured. Peter had “stuck his foot in his mouth.”
They had heard the voice of Father telling them... - this is My Beloved Son - listen to Him
Jesus then told them to tell no one about the incident until after He was raised from the dead.
They wondered...read and see...
Mar 9:9-10

They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant.
“They seized upon that statement...” Which statement?
“until the Son of Man rose from the dead...”.
It appears that they had been wondering about what Jesus had been saying about His dying and rising from the dead.
Now, when He says this, they begin to discuss it among themselves.
What does rising from the dead mean? Did Jesus literally mean that He would die and then live again? Can such occur?
They decided to inquire further, in an oblique way...more later. For now...

“Affirmation, Exhortation”
Blessings folk!
So Peter had “stuck his foot in his mouth.” I love Peter. So like us.
He did not know what to say. So he said something! (See yesterday’s blog)
What was the response of Jesus?
Mar 9:7-9
page1image4832
Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!”
All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.
As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead.
Jesus did not respond. Father did. Father responded with a strong Word of affirmation and exhortation.
Affirmation: This is My Beloved Son.
Father declares Who Jesus is. These three disciples...Peter, James, John...now knew beyond doubt.
Exhortation: Listen to Him. Father tells them what to do. They now knew beyond doubt that they were to listen to Him.
Suddenly, they looked around and saw Jesus alone. All others were gone.
Can you imagine the impact? As they departed from the mountain, Jesus gave them orders.
They were not to tell anyone what they had seen...until the Son of Man rose from the dead.
Jesus again tells them what is to happen to Him. The Word of the Lord was fulfilled. The Word of the Lord would be fulfilled.
So it is today...

“He Did Not Know What to Answer”

“He Did Not Know What to Answer”
Blessings folk! The Lord was transfigured before some of the disciples...
Mark 9:2-6
Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them;
and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified.
What was the reaction of the disciples? We have Peter’s reaction.
“Rabbi”...it is good to be here! “Rabbi”...let’s make three tabernacles. One for You. One for Moses. One for Elijah.
Why did he say this? I love this. “For he did not know what to answer.” He did not know what to say!
Rather than being quiet, he said something stupid. Well...been there, done that!
They were terrified. They did not understand what they were experiencing.
Jesus knew this.
He would explain. For today, when you do not know how to answer, there is no reason to speak. Happy

“Save Your Life?”

September 16, 2017

“Save Your Life?”

Blessings folk!

What is your mind set upon?
God’s interests?
Man’s interests?

In too many portions of the professing Body of Christ a blended perversion occurs.

Man’s interests are pursued in the name of God.

A blasphemous pursuit.

If our goal is to save our own life…we will lose..

Mar 8:34-38

And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.

“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.

“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?

“For what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation,
the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

Seek to save your life?
Lose it.

Lose your life for Jesus’ sake…for the gospel’s sake?
Deny self?
Take up your cross?
Follow Him?
Save it.

The “profit” of life is not found in the attainment of the world.
The “profit” is exchanging our souls for the right thing…eternal life with the Lord, not temporary stuff of the world.

Ashamed of the Lord now in this adulterous/sinful generation?
The Lord will be ashamed of you.
When?
When He comes.
Comes in the glory of His Father.
Comes with the holy angels.

This is the reality of life and eternity.
Are you ready?

“Denying, Taking, Following…”

September 15, 2017

“Denying, Taking, Following…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus had given a surprising response to Peter…

Mar 8:33
But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said,
“Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”

But, Jesus did not stop there.

He gathered the crowd and His disciples and continued speaking…

Mar 8:34-38

And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.

“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,

“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation,

We see much here.

For today…

We see how to set our mind on God’s interests, rather than man’s.
We see what it means to “come after Me”.

It is done by…

  • denying ourselves
  • taking up our cross
  • following Him

Do so.

“Set Your Mind…”

September 14, 2017

“Set Your Mind…”

Blessings folk!

Whew!

A tough Word!

Jesus tells Peter to “get thee behind Me, satan” just moments after telling Peter that he had received insight from Father.

Mar 8:32-33
And He was stating the matter plainly.
And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.

But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said,
“Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”

How quickly we can go from truth to lie!

As Believers we must be careful.

So many fall into the trap.

Oh, we call it different terms…

We “stretch the truth”…
We “exaggerate”…
We use “creative license”…
We “misspeak”…
We “speak imprecisely”…

Such becomes a devastating pattern and practice of life for some.

We all know folk like this.
It is hard to believe anything they are saying.

The bottom line is that we can quickly stray from truth to lie.
We say “No!” to the Lord.
We want our way…the mind of man…rather than His way…the mind of the Lord.

Remember,
Truth - setting our mind on God’s interests
Lie - setting our mind on man’s interests.

“Double…”

September 13, 2017

“Double…”

Blessings folk!

A little sidebar from Mark…
Thanks Hilda for the distraction… Happy Happy Happy

Job.
We know about his suffering.
We know about his faithfulness.
We know at least some of the story.

But, do we know how it ended?

Read…

Job 42:10-13

The LORD restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends,
and the LORD increased all that Job had twofold.

Then all his brothers and all his sisters and all who had known him before came to him, and they ate bread with him in his house; and they consoled him and comforted him for all the adversities that the LORD had brought on him. And each one gave him one piece of money, and each a ring of gold.

The LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; and he had 14,000 sheep and 6,000 camels and 1,000 yoke of oxen and 1,000 female donkeys.

He had seven sons and three daughters.

Some great things here.

The Lord restored the fortunes of Job.
Did you notice when?
When he prayed for his friends.

The Lord had told one of the three friends that they were wrong and that Job would pray for them.

When Job prayed, his fortunes were restored.
They were forgiven…reconciled.
The Lord increased all that Job had twofold.
All who had known him before brought him money and gold.

He had double the sheep that he lost.
Double the camels.
Double the oxen.
Double the female donkeys.

But, what of the children?

In Job 1 we learn that Job had seven sons and three daughters.
They all died in a whirlwind sent by satan.

In Job 42 we see that Job then had seven sons and three daughters.

Double?

Yes!!

This is a precious, poignant moment in the Word.

Job had double the children.
Ten, the original, were awaiting him in glory.
Ten, were with him on earth.

Double.

A picture of God’s grace and mercy…

“Get Behind Me…Stumbling Block”

September 12, 2017

“Get Behind Me…Stumbling Block”

Blessings folk!

Peter rebuked the Lord.
Peter told that Lord that “that will not happen”…that which the Lord had just described.

Again, if He is Lord, we do not say no.

What was Jesus’ response?

Whew!

Mar 8:32-33
And He was stating the matter plainly.
And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.

But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said,
“Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”

Mat 16:22-23
Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying,
“God forbid it, Lord! This shall never [happen to You.”

But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me;
for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”

Whoa!

Just a few verses before Peter had the great declaration that “thou art the Christ…”.

Now, four verses later (in Mark) Jesus rebukes Peter.

Jesus called him satan and told him to get behind Him.

What?

Peter was speaking the mind of satan.

Whereas before flesh and blood had not revealed to Peter the truth of who Jesus is…
Now, Peter was speaking the mind of Satan.

That is how quickly we can move from the mind of the Lord to other things.

What caused this?

Peter was not setting his mind on God’s interest.
Peter was setting his mind on man’s interest.

Jesus told Peter that he was a stumbling block to Him.

Anytime we set our mind on man’s interest rather than on God’s we are a stumbling block to Jesus.

Hummmm….

“…Began To Rebuke Him”

September 11, 2017

“…Began To Rebuke Him”

Blessings folk!

Jesus had asked the disciples to tell Him who the people said He was.

Jesus then warned the disciple to tell no one about Him.

Now, read the next two verses…

Mar 8:31-32

And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

And He was stating the matter plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.

Jesus told them what was to happen to Him.
He must suffer many things
He must be rejected by the religious leadership…
- the elders
- the chief priests
- the scribes
He must be killed.
He must arise again (from death) after days.

I like how blunt Mark is.
“He was stating the matter plainly.”
No parables.
No examples from nature.
No subtlety.

Clear.
Plain.
Concise.

What was the response of the disciples?

In Mark’s account we see that Peter took Jesus aside.
Peter then rebuked Jesus.

Matthew tells us what Peter said.

Mat 16:22
Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying,
“God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You.”

Mat 16:22 (KJV)
Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying,
Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

Peter said “Lord! No!”

Really?
If He is truly Lord, can we…do we…say no?

Sadly we do.
Peter did.

Wait until you see how the Lord responds.

For today, if He be Lord, then yes is the response!

“Keys…”

September 10, 2017

“Keys…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus told Simon that he was blessed because Father had revealed truth to him.

Jesus then calls Simon “Peter”…declaring that the “rock” of his declaration that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the Living God was the foundation upon which He would build His church.

The gates of Hades will not overpower it.

Read again.
Give close heed to what Jesus said next…

Mat 16:15-20
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

“I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church;
and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”

Then He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ.

Jesus gave the keys to the Kingdom of heaven - not to just Peter (as is widely interpreted) but to all who believe.

What does the bind/bound, loose/loosed mean?

When we as true believers declare the truth to the world, it is as if the Lord has spoken.
If the truth binds, they are bound.
If the truth loosens, they are loosed.

We are the vessels and emissaries of the Most High God.

Live it.

“Upon This Rock”

September 9, 2017

“Upon This Rock”

Blessings folk!

Jesus asked the disciples a question.
“Who do the people say I am?”

They had various answers.
Peter finally said “the Christ…”.

Matthew gives a more detailed account…

Mat 16:15-20
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

“I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church;
and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”

Then He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ.

Peter declares that Jesus is “the Christ, the Son of the Living God”. He was correct.

Jesus tells Peter that this understanding…this revelation…did not come by flesh and blood.
No one had told Peter.
No one had taught Peter.
Peter had not created this understanding.

No.
It was by Father in heaven that Peter knew and understood Who Jesus was/is.

Again, not by the understanding of man…flesh and blood.
By Father.

Jesus then declares to Peter that upon this rock He would build His church.

This rock?
Not Peter as some say.
But upon the declaration of faith…”thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God”.

The Church is those who have professed such.

Hades will not overpower the church.

…to be continued…

“Who Do You Say I Am?”

September 8, 2017

“Who Do You Say I Am?”

Blessings folk!

Jesus continued to travel.

He questioned the disciples…

Mar 8:27-30

Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi;
and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, “Who do people say that I am?”

They told Him, saying, “John the Baptist; and others say Elijah;
but others, one of the prophets.”

And He continued by questioning them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”

And He warned them to tell no one about Him.

Jesus asked, “Who do people say that I am?”
Did He not know?
Perhaps.
Did He know?
Likely

Why ask?
He wanted the discussion with the disciples.
He wanted them to think…reflect.

The disciples response?
Some say John the Baptist…
Some say Elijah…
Some say one of the other prophets…

Then Jesus asked “But who do you say that I am?”

Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”

Peter was correct.
The other gospels give us more insight…which we will examine later.

Jesus then warned them to tell no one.
It was not time.

For today, who do you say that He is?
It is time to tell.

“Look Intently”

September 7, 2017

“Look Intently”

Blessings folk!

Jesus exhorted the disciples to understand, to pay attention to what they saw, to trust.

Then…

Mar 8:22-26

And they came to Bethsaida.
And they brought a blind man to Jesus and implored Him to touch him.

Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village;
and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him,
“Do you see anything?”

And he looked up and said, “I see men, for I see them like trees, walking around.”

Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly.

And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.”

Reading the accounts of Jesus healing is always interesting.
It was very organic.
He did not heal the “same way” twice.

He often touched.
He spoke the Word of healing.

I find this particular account especially encouraging.

Too often we think that if the Lord heals it must be instant.

We do not see that here.

Jesus took the blind man by the hand.
Jesus led him out of the village…away from the people…no “show” here…
Jesus spit on his eyes.
Jesus laid hands on him.
Jesus then asked if he saw anything.

The man could see…but only “men as trees walking around”.
Not clearly.

Did “it not work”?

No. Healing was taking place.

There is often process.
There is persistence.
There is determination.
There is faith.
There is perseverance.

Jesus laid His hands on the man again.

The man then looked intently…faith?
The man could see clearly.

Jesus sent him home, not to the village.

May we look intently.
May we see.
May we persevere in the Lord.

“Leaven/Teaching”

September 6, 2017

“Leaven/Teaching”

Blessings folk!

Jesus warned His disciples.
He ordered them…

Mark 8:15
And He was giving orders to them, saying,
“Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

He told them to watch out!
He told them to beware…beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Herod.

What is the leaven?

The hypocrisy of the Pharisees.

Luk 12:1
Under these circumstances, after so many thousands of people had gathered together that they were stepping on one another, He began saying to His disciples first of all,
“Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

They would teach correctly, but do differently.

Matthew gives us insight…

Mat 16:11-12
“How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?
But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread,
but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Beware of the teaching of the Pharisees/Sadducees.

The same applies today.

Beware of false teaching.
Beware of someone who teaches Jesus plus something else.
Beware of someone who teaches the Bible plus something else.

The leaven of such false teaching will permeate and pervert the truth.

Beware!

Know the Truth!
Stand firm in the Truth!

“The Issue”

September 5, 2017

“The Issue”

Blessings folk!

The disciples did not understand.
Jesus was pointing this out.

The issue was not the forgotten bread.
What was the issue?

Read again…

Mar 8:13-21
Leaving them, He again embarked and went away to the other side.

And they had forgotten to take bread,
and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with them.

And He was giving orders to them, saying,
“Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

They began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread.

And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you discuss the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet see or understand? Do you have a hardened heart?

“HAVING EYES, DO YOU NOT SEE? AND HAVING EARS, DO YOU NOT HEAR?
And do you not remember,

when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces you picked up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.”

“When I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?” And they said to Him, “Seven.”

And He was saying to them, “Do you not yet understand?”

They could not “hear” the Word of the Lord because of the issue.

The issue?

They did not trust in the Lord.

Had they not seen with their own eyes?
Had they not heard with their own ears?
Did Jesus not feed 5,000 with twelve baskets remaining?
Did Jesus not feed 4,000 with seven baskets remaining?

Then why worry?
Why fret?
Why be anxious over food?

The worry and distraction kept them from hearing the warning of the Lord!
Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod!

May we not be so.
May we not be distracted.
May we hear the Word.
May we do the Word.

"Forgot the Bread"

September 4, 2017

“Forgot the Bread”

Blessings folk!

Jesus had just had an encounter with the Religionist.
They demanded a sign
He said no sign would be given.

He then departs.

Read carefully…

For today, look at a contextual fact.

The disciples has forgotten to bring bread.
What was their reaction?
We are not told forthrightly, but we can glean from what we see in Mark and Matthew.

They did what is to prevalent in the Body of Christ today.
They were defensive.
They blamed one another.
They were nearly paranoid…especially when Jesus told them to beware the leaven of the Pharisees and Herod.
They thought Jesus was “upset…”
They manifested a hard heart

Mat 16:7
They began to discuss this among themselves, saying,
“He said that because we did not bring any bread.”

Jesus was teaching.
Jesus was seeking to reveal something to them.

What?

Well, the leaven…more on that later.

And, the fact that they did not understand.
Their hearts were hard.

If they understood, then they would not have reacted as they did.
They would not be defensive.
They would not fear.
They would not whisper among themselves.

Based upon what we see in the Body today, we do not understand.

May we understand!

"A Sign"

September 3, 2017

“A Sign”

Blessings folk!

Jesus had just fed 4,000 folk.

He then sent them away.
He left…

Mark 8:10-12

And immediately He entered the boat with His disciples and came to the district of Dalmanutha.

The Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him,
seeking from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him.

Sighing deeply in His spirit, He said, “Why does this generation seek for a sign?
Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

The confrontations were becoming more intense.

The Religionists were boldly arguing with Jesus.
They were demanding a sign from heaven.

They did not care about a sign or heaven.
They wanted to test Him.
They wanted to trap Him.

Yes.
The same occurs today.

Jesus sighed in His spirit.
He knew no sign would be given to this generation…save for the sign of Jonah…

Mat 12:39
But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet;

Mat 16:4
“An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.

Luk 11:29
As the crowds were increasing, He began to say, “This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks for a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign ofJonah.

There would be a sign.
The sign of Jonah.

Mat 12:40
for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Jesus would be the sign.
His death.
His three days/night in the heart of the earth

Luk 11:30
“For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.

Jesus was/is the sign.

“Hunger…”

“Hunger…”

Blessings folk!

The people were hungry…

Mar 8:1-2

In those days, when there was again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat,
Jesus called His disciples and said to them,

“I feel compassion for the people
because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat.

People are still hungry today.

They hunger for the Word of God.

It is a rarity to hear the Word truly taught in most congregations.
Oh, we talk.
Oh, we tell stories.
Oh, recount events.
We are “relevant”.
We are “interesting.”

All the while, people that were gathering are voting with their feet.
People that have never been, refuse to consider.

It is also a rarity to see the Word of God truly lived.
Oh, we talk about it.
But, our live reflect otherwise.
Oh, we organize, systematize, committee-ize, commision-ize.
But, we reject the Word and go our own way.

Remember the Word of the Lord…

Jhn 6:35
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life;
he who comes to Me will not hunger,
and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

In the last days, which biblically speaking we are in, there will be a void of the truth of the Word.
People will desire to hear what will tickle their ears.

 2Ti 4:3-4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine;
but wanting to have their ears tickled,
they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,

and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

Know the Truth.
Stand firm in the Truth.
Feast on the Truth.
Hunger not.

“4000”

September 1, 2017

“4000”

Blessings folk!

We often hear sermons and teachings on the feeding of the 5,000.

Rarely do we hear of the feeding of the 4,000.

Read the account.

Note the differences from the feeding of the 5,000

Mar 8:1-9

In those days, when there was again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat,
Jesus called His disciples and said to them,

“I feel compassion for the people
because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat.

“If I send them away hungry to their homes,
they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from a great distance.”

And His disciples answered Him, “Where will anyone be able to find enough bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people?”

And He was asking them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.”

And He directed the people to sit down on the ground; and taking the seven loaves,
He gave thanks and broke them, and started giving them to His disciples to serve to them,
and they served them to the people.

They also had a few small fish; and after He had blessed them,
He ordered these to be served as well.

And they ate and were satisfied;
and they picked up seven large baskets full of what was left over of the broken pieces.

About four thousand were there; and He sent them away.

For today, did you notice the motivation?

It was a large crowd.
They had nothing to eat.

Jesus initiated.
He called His disciples to Himself.

He told them that He felt compassion for the people because they had been with Him three days and had nothing to eat.

The Lord saw their need.
He had compassion.

He still does…
