“You Are Mistaken…”
Blessings folk!
The liberal, secular Religionists (Sadducees) took their shot at entrapping Jesus.
They present a hypothetical about a woman who had married seven brothers.
This was in keeping of the Law related to raising up seed unto a brother who died childless.
The woman had no children.
She dies.
They wanted to know “in the resurrection…” (which they denied)…”whose wife will she be since they all had her.”
Insensitive snarky-ness that betrays their heart.
Jesus’ response?
One of my favorite verses in the Word…
A Truth so needed for today…
Sadly, more true today…
The same grievous positions abound today.
Most of the Body of Christ do not know/understand the Scriptures.
Most of the Body of Christ does not know the power of God.
Jesus was addressing the religious leadership.
They studied the Word…hour upon hour upon hour…day upon day…year upon year.
Yet, they did not understand.
Oh, they thought they understood.
They had it all laid out and explained.
Now Jesus is telling them that they erred.
Their understanding was in error.
Shocking to hear then.
Shocking today.
Jesus then tells them that they did not understand the power of God.
Same today.
For the most part, the western church today is powerless.
Rare are those who trust and depend upon the power of God.
Rare is the Believer who longs and yearns to be a vessel of the power of the Lord.
Think on this response of the Lord.
Are we mistaken?
Do we not understand the Scripture?
Do we not understand the power of God?

Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are mistaken,
that you do not understand the Scriptures or the power of God?
Mat 22:29
But Jesus answered and said to them,
“You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God.
Jesus forthrightly tells them they are mistaken.
They are wrong.
Wrong about what?
The resurrection. Relationships in eternity. Etc. We will see more later.
Jesus tells them why they were wrong.
Two things.
- They did not understand the Scriptures.
- They did not understand the power of God.
