“The Lord Answered Job Out of the Whirlwind…”

Blessings folk!

Job chapters 4-37 are the account of Job’s friends speaking.
They tell what they think.
They tell some really insightful things about God.
They basically concluded that Job was undergoing judgment because he had sinned.
They were wrong.

Also within these chapters we see Job defending himself and his integrity.

Initially I wanted to look at Job 38 onward, but felt the need to set the scene by chapter 1-3.

Now, Job 38…

Job 38:1-3

Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,

“Who is this that darkens counsel
By words without knowledge?

“Now gird up your loins like a man,
And I will ask you, and you instruct Me!

The Lord answers Job.

Job had some questions.
Job had some “complaints”.
Job had had an intense dialogue with his friend.
Now God was answering Job.
God does so through a series of questions.
Many, many questions.

Note the first question… “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?”

The Lord was saying…
“Who is this who is questioning me by words?”
“Who is this who questions without knowledge?”

It is not that the Lord did not know.
Of course He did.
These questions are for the sake of Job.

God then gives a command to Job
Gird your loins like a man.

Why?

Because God is about to question Job.
God tells Job to instruct Him.

Wonder how Job responded?

We are told, but later.

Let me just tell you now.
Keep this in mind.

Job 40:3-4

Then Job answered the LORD and said,

“Behold, I am insignificant; what can I reply to You?
I lay my hand on my mouth.

Job laid his hand over his mouth.
Happy
Wise move.

We should do likewise…
