“If You Are Willing…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus went throughout Galilee preaching the Kingdom and casting out demons.

So should we.

Now, watch what happens…

Mar 1:39-45
And He went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee,
preaching and casting out the demons.

And a leper came to Jesus, beseeching Him and falling on his knees before Him, and saying,
“If You are willing, You can make me clean.”

Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him,
“I am willing; be cleansed.”

Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.

And He sternly warned him and immediately sent him away,

and He said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

But he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the news around, to such an extent that Jesus could no longer publicly enter a city, but stayed out in unpopulated areas;
and they were coming to Him from everywhere.

Several things to note in this encounter.

  1. Jesus healed. He healed leprosy…an incurable disease.

(2) The leper approached Jesus. The leper “beseeched” Jesus. He cried out to Him.
The leper fell on his knees before Jesus…a position of humility, of honor…of worship?

(3) The leper had faith. How do I know? He stated “If You are willing, You can make me clean”. He had no doubt about Jesus’ ability. He simply did not know if the Lord would want to.

(4) Jesus was moved with compassion. Hummm… Where did that “move” come from? From Father? From the Spirit? From Jesus’ emotions? All of these…

(5) Jesus did a profound thing. He reached out and touched the leper. Lepers were not to be touched. They were highly unclean….ritualistically and physically. Yet Jesus touched him.

(6) Jesus then declared that He was willing to heal the man.
Jesus simply declared “be cleansed”.

What if we were to live in such faith?
The faith of the man?
The compassion and willingness of the Lord?

Many would be the healed.
Many would be the saved.
Many would be of those who were once captive but are now free.

…to be continued…
