“Let Our Leaders Represent…”

Blessings folk!

The people agreed with Ezra and the leadership.

They had sinned.
They needed to confess and repent.

But there were logistical considerations.
The people brought this up…

Ezr 10:12-13

Then all the assembly replied with a loud voice,
“That’s right! As you have said, so it is our duty to do.

“But there are many people;
it is the rainy season and we are not able to stand in the open.
Nor can the task be done in one or two days,
for we have transgressed greatly in this matter.

There were many people who sinned.
It was the rainy season and it would be difficult to stand in the open awaiting their turn.
They knew it would take some time.
They knew they has transgressed greatly.

The people then offered a suggestion.

Ezr 10:14
“Let our leaders represent the whole assembly and let all those in our cities who have married foreign wives come at appointed times, together with the elders and judges of each city,
until the fierce anger of our God on account of this matter is turned away from us.”

They suggested that their leaders represent them.
The guilty would come before the elders and judges.
They would do so until all had confessed and the fierce anger of God be turned away.

Do you see the big picture of how all this is happening?

Levites told Ezra there was a problem.
Ezra goes before the Lord.
Shecaniah receives a Word from the Lord.
Shecaniah tells Ezra what to do.
Ezra does it.
The people agree, but then offer a logistical suggestion.
We will see that the leaders followed the suggestion of the people.

Input in varied ways from all.

Let he who has eyes, see.
Let he who has ears, hear.
Let he who has a brain, think.
