“Doeg and A Sword”

Blessings folk!

David had just procured bread for himself and his men.

They ate the consecrated bread found in Nob.

But, there was a brewing problem…

1Sa 21:7-9

Now one of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD;
and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the chief of Saul’s shepherds.

David said to Ahimelech, “Now is there not a spear or a sword on hand?
For I brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me,
because the king’s matter was urgent.”

Then the priest said, “The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah, behold, it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if you would take it for yourself, take it.
For there is no other except it here.” And David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”

A servant of Saul was there.
Detained of the Lord…whom…wonder what that mens?
Was he “unclean”? Did the Lord “plan” for him to be there?

Then this.
David was looking for a sword…a weapon of some sort.
David continued the ruse by saying that the “king’s matter was so urgent” he was unable to bring weaponry.

They had one weapon.
The very sword of Goliath whom David killed.
It was wrapped cloth behind the ephod.
Humm…
David seems to be are unaware of it being there.
We are not told how it came to be there.

Nonetheless, David took it.

There is none like it.
It was better than nothing.
It was also very large.

…to be continued…
