“It Will Be More Tolerable”

Blessings folk?

Today’s reading:

Matthew 11:20-24
Luke 10:13-15

Jesus denounces/criticizes/upbraids certain cities.
Why?
Because they did not repent.
Even though Jesus did most of His miracles in these cities they refused to repent.

Therefore, Jesus proclaims what will happen to them.

Jesus compares them to cities/situations with which they would have been familiar.

Woe to Chorazin and Bethsaida.
If the miracles performed in them had been done in Tyre and Sidon they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes.

Woe to Capernaum.
They will descend to Hades.
If the miracles that had occurred there had been done in Sodom, then Sodom would remain.

Jesus makes an interesting statement with both examples - “it will be more tolerable for…”

Apparently there are “degrees/levels” of judgment and punishment.

Have you truly repented?
If not, do so.
It will more tolerable for Sodom than for you.
