Jesus continues His “you have heard it said/but I say” teaching.

Jesus confronts a subject that was of tremendous debate in His day...and today.
Divorce.

Jesus acknowledges that the Law forbade adultery (and resulting corollary of divorce), but Jesus then gives more insight.

If someone looks upon another with “desire” then they have committed adultery in their heart.

Jesus continues to reveal the “heart issue” that is the basis of sin.

He then tells them in rhetorical hyperbole to rid oneself of that which is the cause of sin.

Jesus does “allow” for divorce in the case of immorality/infidelity, yet few recognize that it is an allowance. Not a command.

Too often, believers use this allowance as a “get outta jail free” card rather than doing that which the Lord desires...repentance, forgiveness.
