“Have You Commanded the Morning…?”

“Have You Commanded the Morning…?”

Blessings folk!

The questioning of Job by the Lord continues…

Job 38:12-15

“Have you commanded the morning since your days began,
and caused the dawn to know its place,

that it might take hold of the skirts of the earth,
and the wicked be shaken out of it?

It is changed like clay under the seal,
and its features stand out like a garment.

From the wicked their light is withheld,
and their uplifted arm is broken.

What a question!
What detail!

“Hey Job. Have you ever commanded the morning…the sun to rise?”
“Have you caused the dawn to know its place?”

There is so much to be gleaned from these questions.
The morning/dawn are “commandable”.
They “take hold of the skirts of the earth”.
The wicked are shaken out.

I believe this is a picture of the light driving the wicked out of the darkness of the night.

The earth is changed as clay is by the sun.

So, can Job command the sun/dawn?
Can he shake/drive away wickedness?
Can he withhold light from the wicked?
Can he break their uplifted arm?…a picture of aggressive defiance to the Lord.

Of course he can not.
Neither can we.

Why do we try?
