“I Have Chosen”

Blessings folk!

Jesus tells us:
  • a slave is not greater than his master
  • the one sent is not greater than the one who sent him

Jesus continues.

John 13:16-17

“Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master,
nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.

“If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.

We are blessed if we do these things.
What things? Remember the context…washing of feet.
If we live in humility before one another.
If we help one another.

Jesus knew that that not all who profess to live this way would.

John 13:18

“I do not speak of all of you. I know the ones I have chosen; but it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘HE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME.’

Jesus knew a traitor was among them.
Jesus knew who he was.
He knew the ones that He had chosen…that can be understood in both senses.
He knows the ones He has chosen.
He knows all about each one…including Judas who He chose as an apostle.

Why was Judas chosen?
That Scripture might be fulfilled.

Psalm 41:9

Even my close friend in whom I trusted,
Who ate my bread,
Has lifted up his heel against me.

The Lord knows.
Rest in this.
Live in this.
