Gen 7:10-12

It came about after the seven days, that the water of the flood came upon the earth.

In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened.

The rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.

The “water of the flood” came upon the earth after seven days.
Seven days of what?
Perhaps seven days since Noah had moved in.
Likely getting animals and supplies in.
We will learn more later.

The Lord is very precise.
600th year of Noah.
2nd month, of Noah’s life or some calendar?

What happened on that day?

People often think that it rained 40 days/nights in the pattern of our current hydrological cycle.
Nope.

On that same day…

• all the fountains of the great deep burst open. So, seems to have been (or are?) subterranean fountains of great deep. They burst open…exploded.
• the flood gates of the sky were opened. Somewhere I read that if all the water in the atmosphere were precipitated out at the same time, it would only be 1/4 inch of rain. There was likely a great abundance of water in the sky. The hydrological cycle of Noah’s time was different than ours. It had never rained.
