“Imitators”

Blessings folk!

Paul begins to reach a series of “mini-conclusions” while continuing with instructions.

Eph 5:1
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;

“Therefore”…”in light of what we have seen”…

Therefore, we are to imitators of God…even as children imitate parents.

The Greek for “imitator” is mimētēs…from the word miméomai …it literally means to “imitate”, “to follow”.

The older among us will see/remember the old mimeographs…you can see the word.

We are called to imitate God.

We are also told in other portions of the Word that man was made in the image of God.

Gen 1:27
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.

Not only are made in the image of God, we are made to image God!

Michael Heiser states it succinctly:

Consciously thinking of ourselves as God’s agents—his imagers—means the decisions we make matter. Christians, no longer lost in sin, can fulfill God’s plan with the help of the Holy Spirit. We are here to spread the goodness of life with God and tell people who need the gospel how they can enjoy that too. Our lives intersect with many people. Their memory of those encounters ripples through their lives and through all the people whose lives they touch. We are a glimpse either of life with God or of a life without God. There’s no middle ground.
