“Word of the Lord? Riches?”

“Word of the Lord? Riches?”

Blessings folk!

We continue through Psalm 119…each eight-verse stanza at a time.

The Psalmist continues to declare the good things the Lord has done for him.
The Psalmist continues to make requests of the Lord.
The Psalmist continues to testify of the power of the Word.

Watch for all.

Psa 119:65-72

Teth.
You have dealt well with Your servant,
O LORD, according to Your word.

Teach me good discernment and knowledge,
For I believe in Your commandments.

Before I was afflicted I went astray,
But now I keep Your word.

You are good and do good;
Teach me Your statutes.

The arrogant have forged a lie against me;
With all my heart I will observe Your precepts.

Their heart is covered with fat,
But I delight in Your law.

It is good for me that I was afflicted,
That I may learn Your statutes.

The law of Your mouth is better to me
Than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

What do we learn about God?

  • Deals well with His servants
  • Deals according to His Word
  • He is good
  • He does good
  • Teaches His statutes

What about the Psalmist?
  • God’s servant
  • Desired to be taught about good discernment and knowledge, statutes
  • Believed the Lord’s commandments
  • Once was astray
  • Affliction brought Him back
  • Keeps the Lord’s Word…after affliction
  • Had been lied about
  • Determined to observe the Lord’s precepts with all his heart
  • Delighted in the law of the Lord
  • Learned that affliction can be good…learned the Lord’s statutes
  • Now knew that the Law of the Lord is better than thousands of pieces of gold/silver.

The Lord’s:
  • Word
  • Commandments
  • Statutes
  • Precepts
  • Law

Are they better to you than the riches of the world?
Which do you pursue? The Word? Riches?

We often “say” the right thing.

Which does your life reveal?
