“It Is Time For The Lord to Act”

Blessings folk!

In the next stanza of Psalm 119 the Psalmist makes a bold statement.

Psa 119:121-28

Ayin.
I have done justice and righteousness;
Do not leave me to my oppressors.

Be surety for Your servant for good;
Do not let the arrogant oppress me.

My eyes fail with longing for Your salvation
And for Your righteous word.

Deal with Your servant according to Your lovingkindness
And teach me Your statutes.

I am Your servant; give me understanding,
That I may know Your testimonies.

It is time for the LORD to act,
For they have broken Your law.

Therefore I love Your commandments
Above gold, yes, above fine gold.

Therefore I esteem right all Your precepts concerning everything,
I hate every false way.

The statement?
“Is is time for the Lord to act”.
This is not some proclamation of soulish hubris on the part of the Psalmist.
It is an understanding that the Lord will only “wait so long” when it comes to sin.
The oppressors had broken the Law of the Lord.
They were living “every false way”.
The Lord would act.

The Psalmist states forthrightly that he has:

  • Done justice
  • Done righteousness
  • Longed for the Lord’s salvation
  • Served the Lord
  • Loved the Lord’s commandments above gold
  • Esteemed the Lord’s precepts as correct in all things
  • Hated every false way

Again we see the Word:
  • Statutes
  • Testimonies
  • Law
  • Commandments
  • Precepts

The Psalmist asked the Lord:
  • Do not let the arrogant oppress me
  • Deal with Your servant according to Your lovingkindness
  • Teach me Your statutes
  • Give me understanding
  • Let me know Your testimonies

De we believe?
Do we live this way?
Do we trust this way?

Cry out to the Lord.
Trust the Lord.

It is time for the Lord to act.
