"Remember..."

“Remember…”

Blessings folk!

Paul called the Ephesians - and us - to remember…
In light of what he had taught to this point, we are to remember.
Remember what?

Ephesians 2:11-12
11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands—
12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

Therefore...again, in the context of what was written earlier in the letter.

We are to remember…

  • that at one time we were Gentiles in the flesh. He is reminding them that they were not Jews...not of the nation of Israel.
  • they were literally called “the uncircumcision” by “the circumcision”...the Jews...the act of circumcision being an act of obedience in the flesh by hands
  • that at that time...when we were Gentiles in the flesh...we were separated from Christ
  • we were alienated from the commonwealth of Israel...not Jews...not of the line of Abraham
  • we were strangers to the covenants of Promise...through Abraham, et. al.
  • we had no hope
  • we were without God in the world
  • we were in/of the world

Such we were.

We have already seen in Ephesians 2 what “we were” and what “we are”.

We have a similar thing here.

We are to remember what were were…

You know what the first Word of verse 13 is…?
“But”… “in Christ”.
Ah.
We will look at that tomorrow.
