“Do Not Quench Nor Despise”
Blessings folk!
Paul is drawing his letter to a close.
Thoughts are rapidly coming out.
We saw one yesterday - “do not quench the Spirit…”.
That was just half the sentence.
Here is the complete thought.
1 Th 5:19-20
Do not quench the Spirit;
do not despise prophetic utterances.
It literally means “do not despise prophetic gifts”.
This verse is basically complete ignored by the western church today.
We quench the Spirit.
We despise prophetic utterances.
We basically ignore both the Spirit and prophetic when it comes to corporate worship.
Oh sure, one individual is allowed to “prophesy” for awhile, but not how you see in the Word.
How do I know?
Read 1 Corinthians 12-14.
Do you see that happening in corporate gatherings today, especially chapter 14?
No.
We ignore, we quench.
We ignore, we despise.
We ignore the way of the Lord, all the while imploring Him “to move”.
Why would He, when we refuse His instruction?
